Harrisonville man killed in Cass County crash

Around 12:35pm this afternoon the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriffs Deputies responded to a one vehicle fatality accident on 307th Street just West of Tennessee Road in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1999 Ford Ranger driven by 57 year old Monte J. Cummins of Harrisonville, Missouri was Westbound on 307th Street when he ran off the left side of the roadway striking a bridge and overturning coming to rest on its top in a creek bed.

Mr. Cummins was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:55pm by Paramedic Mark J. Graves. He was transported to the Jackson County Medical Examiners Office.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by J's Southland Tow.

This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 34th Fatality accident on 2016.

Sharon Kay Scotten

Sharon Kay Scotten, 71, Nevada, MO passed from this life on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada. Sharon was born on February 14, 1945 in Nevada to Joseph Harold and Geneva (Belcher) Rabon. She was united in marriage to Dwight D. Scotten on August 6, 1977 in Nevada and he survives of the home.

Sharon attended Nevada schools and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1963. While in high school she was employed as an assistant at the high school and public libraries. Following high school she worked as a bookkeeper at the Nevada State Hospital. Sharon had a love for music and was the director of the choir for the hospital, playing both the piano and the organ. While working there she was awarded “The Employee of the Year”. Sharon was an avid sports fan. She loved baseball and football, and was a devoted fan of both the Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals.

In addition to her husband Dwight she is survived by one sister, JoAnne Banta (Steve), Springfield, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor David Crook officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Body of Infant female Recovered In Barton County farm pond


Sheriff Chad Anderson has informed Mid America Live that Bates County deputies are assisting with this case

On July 11, 2016, at the request of Barton County Sheriff Mitchell Shaw, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Barton County Deputies, responded to a rural area approximately three miles southeast of Lamar, Missouri, to a report of a body located in a farm pond. 

Current information is the body is of an unidentified infant female. 

The Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad has been activated to assist in the investigation and an autopsy will be conducted today, in an attempt to identify the individual and determine a cause of death. 

The investigation is ongoing by the Barton County Sheriff's Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Southwest Missouri Case Major Squad. No additional details are available at this time.

Nevada woman arrested for burglary and property damage

On Sunday 7/10/16 the Nevada Police Department arrested 24 year old Cassondra Ellison of Nevada, Missouri.

She was arrested for 1.) Felony Burglary 2.) Misdemeanor Property Damage.

Cassondra Ellison was booked into the Vernon County Jail and placed on a $10,500.00 cash/surety bond.
