Search Warrant Served on North Austin Street in Butler

On July 16, 2016 Deputies executed a search warrant at 509 N Austin in Butler, MO. During the execution of the warrant Deputies located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. 

The subject was not home at the time of the search warrant being executed. Charges are pending at this time.

The Bates County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Butler Police Department in executing this search warrant.

Windshield kicked out of Bates County Sheriffs car in Rich Hill

On July 13, 2016 Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on county road 10508 in Rich Hill, MO. Deputies interviewed a male subject who stated his wife had hit him several times in the face. He had injuries to his mouth. The male subject stated that he did not wish to press charges. 

The wife stated that they both hit each other and she wanted him to leave. The Deputy explained to her that he could not force her husband leave. The wife became very agitated and started yelling at her husband. She threatened to hit her husband again. The Deputy decided because of her level of intoxication, he would put her on a 12 hour Detox. The Deputy attempted to place the female into the front seat of his patrol vehicle. She refused to put her legs in the car and kept pushing on the door with her feet so the Deputy could not close the door. The Deputy attempted to put her legs in the car and in turn the female subject kicked the windshield of the patrol vehicle causing the windshield to crack. 

The Deputy advised the female that she was going to be charged with a crime for breaking the windshield and if she did not put her feet down that they would be restrained with flex cuffs. The subject decided to put her feet down so the Deputy could close the door.

The subject was transferred to the Bates County Jail and put on a 24 hour investigative hold. The female subject is expected to be charged with tampering with a motor vehicle.

Blood Drive in Butler this Saturday

The American Red Cross will be having a blood drive on Saturday, July, 23 from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm. 

The blood drive is being held at the First Christian Church located at 11 W. Pine in Butler.

Military Police train at the Vernon County Jail

Members of the 205th Military Police Battalion of the Missouri Army National Guard trained at the Vernon County Jail last week as part of their training for military police detention. According to Sheriff’s Officials, the jail provided a first-hand look at the jails airlock systems for room-to-room containment, inmate security, and overall safety factors of a jail facility. 

Sheriff Jason Mosher said he was more than happy to provide the assistance of the jail for training, “we consider it an honor any time we can be of assistance to our men and women in the armed forces.”

The Sheriff said his office had assisted an MP unit in the past with high-risk vehicle stop training at Camp Clark and said the base had assisted his office with the use of their Shooting range on several occasion. “It’s great to see our troops and members of law enforcement assisting each other” said Mosher.

Baseball Bat Assault in Rockville

On July 15, 2016 a Sergeant from the Bates County Sheriff’s Office took a report of an assault that had occurred at the ballfield in Rockville, MO. 

While the victim had been watching a ballgame a subject approached the victim carrying a baseball bat. 

The male subject swung the bat and hit the victim in the face knocking him to the ground. The subject then jumped in a car and fled the scene. The victim was taken to a hospital in Eldorado Springs to seek treatment.

The Sergeant contacted the Eldorado Springs Police Department and asked an Officer to respond to the hospital and take a statement from the victim. The Eldorado Springs Officer made contact with the victim who had severe injuries to his face as well as a broken jaw.

No charges were filed against the suspect because he is now deceased.

Arrests made after vehicles refuse to yield to law enforcement in St. Clair County

On Saturday evening July 16, several individuals were taken into custody after deputies were dispatched to assist Osceola Police Department with stopping two motorcycles traveling at a high rate of speed and failing to yield.

The motorcycles were originally traveling northbound on Highway 13. When they reached Lowry City they turned around and started traveling southbound on Highway 13. Several deputies joined in the attempt to stop the vehicles. While passing Highway 82 speeds reached approximately 135 miles per hour.

Near SE 650 Road, Collins, the motorcycles passed a truck pulling a trailer with four wheelers. The truck switched lanes in front of a deputy and prevented the deputy from continuing after fleeing motorcycles. One deputy stopped following the motorcycles and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the deputy’s emergency lights and sirens and refused to pull over for several miles. Near the Polk County line, the driver of the truck slammed on his brakes and came to a complete stop in the middle of the lane. A felony traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Jeremy Schies, 31, Stockton, was arrested and later released pending a formal charge. A passenger, Trisha Zaring, was also arrested and taken into custody on an active warrant from Bolivar Police Department for failing to appear in court on a charge of not wearing a seat belt.
Other deputies continued south on Highway 13 toward Polk County attempting to stop the motorcycles. Two deputies from Polk County attempted a rolling road block and one of the motorcycles went between them and continued south on Highway 13. As they approached Highway 32, Bolivar, one motorcycle pulled over and stopped. 

A felony traffic stop was conducted on the motorcycle and the operator, Eric Woods, 21, Springfield, was taken into custody. Later the same day a warrant was issued for Woods charging him with class D felony resisting arrest by fleeing. Bond is set at $12,500 cash or surety. A passenger on the motorcycle, Toni Cannon, 19, Springfield, was taken into custody and later released pending a formal charge.

The second motorcycle eluded law enforcement and was not apprehended. The driver was identified and formal charges are pending.

$18,060 in drug money located in St. Clair County woods

Money recovered in St. Clair County

On Friday, July 15 several St. Clair County deputies along with members of the Mid Missouri Multi Jurisdiction Drug Task Force located $18,060 in cash SE of Rainey. 

The money was found wrapped up in a towel in the woods west of the Leland Daggett residence. The money is believed to be associated with drugs.

Information regarding the money was obtained after a search for Kenneth Lake; a fugitive with a Federal warrant, was conducted. On June 9, Lake was spotted on Daggett’s property and fled in a pickup truck to the wooded area west of Daggett’s. Lake then fled on foot carrying the money. He was not apprehended, but was believed to have hidden the money in the woods while fleeing.

Sheriff Keeler explained the money will be turned over in a Federal drug investigation along with another $11,700 that was seized during the investigation at Daggett’s house in June. Formal charges related to the incident are pending.
