Grass Fire in Drexel Area

The Drexel Fire Department along with mutual aide from the Adrian Fire Department is currently battling a 5 acre grass fire at NW 18 Highway just off of CR 14002 in rural Northwest Bates County.

 No structures are in danger at this time and crews arrived on scene fairly quickly to get this fire under control

Obituary - Frankie Fay Willett

Frankie Fay Willett

Frankie Fay Willett, née Jackson, passed away on July 20, 2016, in Fort Scott, KS. She was 88.
Ms. Willett was born on August 5, 1927, in Parma, MO, to Hester James William Jackson and Freda Liza Savannah Jackson. 

She graduated high school in 1944 and in October of that year married Robert G. Willett, of Perkins, MO.
She attended Southeast Missouri State Teachers College for a short time, but left Missouri in early 1946 to join Robert, who had relocated to Flint, MI, to seek employment with General Motors at Buick Motor Division.

Once settled in Flint, she took on a number of part-time jobs to finance her education. She began studies at Flint Junior College and completed her undergraduate work at Central Michigan University, earning a bachelor of science degree in June 1961. She earned her master of arts in education from the Rackham School of Graduate Studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in August 1968, graduating with honors.

Ms. Willett became a teacher at what is now McKinley Middle School in 1959 and enjoyed a highly respected 30-year career there, active in the Michigan Education Association, affiliated with the National Education Association, and the United Teachers of Flint.
While living in Flint, she and Robert spent many years vacationing in the Branson, MO, area, having first visited as high school sweethearts on a class trip in the early 1940s. After Robert retired from Buick on disability in 1970, they spent three months each year in Branson, camping and fishing, and built a home there in 1977, intending to someday relocate permanently. Robert died in 1979, but after her retirement in 1989 Ms. Willett became a full-time resident of the area, living there until recently, when she became incapacitated by illness.

She is survived by her two sons, Robert of Atlanta, GA, and Scott of New York City. Her siblings Eloise Jones of Keytesville, MO; Hester Barfoot of Colorado Springs, CO; and James William Jackson of the Kansas City, MO, area preceded her in death.
Ms. Willett is to be interred in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery, next to her husband. A graveside service is planned for 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 26, 2016. 

A visitation will begin at 1:00 pm at Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home. Flowers may be sent to Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home, 1638 E. State Hwy 76, Branson, MO.

Obituary - Sharon Kay Barr

The Funeral Service for Sharon will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Monday, July 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.

Officiating at the service will be David Hill .Visitation will precede the service from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.
  
Interment will be at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri

Sharon Kay Barr, 72, passed away peacefully at her home at Appleton City, Missouri on July 20, 2016. She was the only daughter of Eldred T. and Frances I. (McCray) Glancias, born March 15, 1944.

She attended school in the Kansas City area and spent most of her life as a homemaker. In 2010 she married Robert Alvin Barr in Hawaii. The couple then moved from Kansas City to Appleton City in 2013, enjoying small town life together until his death.

Sharon never had two legged children, but tenderly mothered numerous creatures with four legs. Apart from her dogs, she loved knitting, participating in the Golden Apple’s club, and making trips to Sonic. Her faith remained one of the most important parts of Sharon’s life, and her regular gifts to the ministry of Jimmy Swaggart demonstrated a deep commitment to furthering the message of Christ. While Sharon had no family in the community, she nevertheless cherished time spent with friends as they played bingo, chatted, and traveled to Branson together.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents Eldred and Frances; and her husband Robert. She is survived by three dogs, numerous friends, and her best friend Mary Carter. Sharon will be missed by all who knew her.

St. Clair County Sheriffs Office looking for man who fled on foot

On Thursday afternoon, July 21, a male suspect fled from St. Clair County deputies in the process of being arrested for drug possession. 

The man fled on foot into creeks and timber between Roscoe and Tiffin. The sheriff explained deputies have been and are currently actively patrolling the area for the suspect.

“He is not believed to be a danger to anyone at this time,” said Sheriff Keeler. “As always, be aware of your surroundings and advise the sheriff’s office if something appears out of the normal.”

Russell J. Hann

Russell J. Hann, age 64, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016 a his home surrounded by his wife and two sons in Clinton, Missouri. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, July 28, 10:30am at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, with visitation Wednesday, July 27, 7:00-8:30pm at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Children's Mercy Cancer Research and can be left in care of the funeral home. Russell J. Hann, son of John and Marjorie (Payne) Hann was born December 12, 1951 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Russ served in the U.A. Army from 1971 to 1973. He worked for Jim Price Construction and Pathways as the Environmental Director for over 20 years. He also was instrumental in starting Hann Make Calls.

Russ loved to fish, hunt, do woodworking and ride his Harley. He was also a scuba diving specialist. Russ was a member of the Clinton Elks Lodge No 1034 and the American Legion Post NO.14, Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his foster, Dean and Doris Orcott, and his foster brother, Jay Orcott.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda of the home; two sons, Jacob Hann of Clinton, Lucas Hann of Ozark, Missouri, two grandsons, Mason Hann and Alex Hann.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.
