Arrest warrant issued for El Dorado Springs man who fled from deputies in St.Clair County

On July 22, a St. Clair County warrant was issued for Dennis Spiva, 38, El Dorado Springs, charging him with class C felony possession of a controlled substance and class D felony resisting/interfering with an arrest for a felony. Bond is set at $25,000 cash only.

The charges stem from an investigation the previous day on Highway 82 near SW 651 Road between Roscoe and Tiffin. After receiving a call regarding a suspicious vehicle in the area, a St. Clair County deputy met with Spiva who stated he parked his vehicle while he and a friend were walking the creek looking for arrowheads. 

During the investigation a glass pipe and a plastic container with approximately 21 grams of white crystal substance was located in Spiva’s possession. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine. 

The moment when these items were discovered, Spiva fled on foot into creeks and timber. An extensive search of the area was conducted utilizing several officers and a Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter. Spiva was not located.

Drexel man arrested in Cass County

Around 2:12am this morning the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County arrested 61 year old William A. Mori of Drexel, Missouri.

Mr. Mori was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated

He was booked into the Belton Police Department and later released.

Nevada man arrested for failure to appear

On Saturday 7/23/16 the Nevada Police Department arrested 34 year old Brandon Hyder of Nevada, Missouri.

Mr. Hyder was arrested for 1.) Failure to appear on a Class C Felony alleging unlawful possession, transportation, manufacture and sale of illegal fire arms.

He was booked into the Vernon County Jail and no new court date has been set at this time.

A Nevada man has been booked at the Vernon County jail for missing a court appearance on a felony charge.

Officials at 2040 E. Hunter in Nevada say 34-year-old Brandon Hyder was booked Saturday, July 23, one day after a failure-to-appear warrant was issued. Vernon County court information, available on-line, indicates a class C felony count alleging the unlawful possession, transportation, manufacture, repair or sale of an illegal weapon was filed against Hyder five months ago. During a brief hearing Monday, July 18, judge James Bickel denied a request from the attorney representing Hyder for a second continuance and ordered the issuance of the failure-to-appear warrant. A new court date has not been scheduled.

Judge overturns murder conviction of man accused of killing Cedar County Sheriffs Deputy

STOCKTON, Mo. A Greene County judge has overturned a jury's murder conviction in the shooting death of a Cedar County deputy in November 2014. 

In May, a Greene County jury found Joshua Brown guilty of four counts of second-degree murder in the death of deputy Matthew Chism. The jury also found him guilty of possessing methamphetamine, tampering with physical evidence, and hindering prosecution. It took the jury just 15 minutes to deliberate a decision. Brown waived his right to have a jury recommend a sentence. 

According to court documents, Brown was the driver of a car, and William Collins was his passenger. Deputy Matthew Chism pulled the vehicle over in El Dorado Springs for driving without headlights. The car sped off, and a pursuit ensued. Collins soon jumped out of the speeding car and ran. Deputy Chism stopped and chased after him. The two began to struggle. Shots were fired. Collins was killed. Chism was also shot. He later died at the hospital. Brown was found later at a nearby home. He was charged with second degree murder in Deputy Chism's death, despite prosecutors acknowledging he did not pull the trigger.

The Cedar County prosecutor says Judge Holden stated he believed Brown should have never been charged with felony murder for his involvement in the death of Deputy Chism. Furthermore, the judge gave his opinion Deputy Matthew Chism was not following proper police procedure when he gave chase to passenger William Collins as he fled the vehicle involved in a police pursuit. Judge Holden stated the deputy had no probable cause to believe Collins, who subsequently killed Deputy Chism, was guilty of committing a crime, since the police pursuit began as a traffic stop.

"Judge Calvin Holden’s decision is incorrect, ignores the law and the facts, and improperly sets aside the decision of the jury," said Cedar County prosecutor Ty Gaither. "Judge Holden’s decision will be appealed to the Southern District Court of Appeals."

Brown will serve 10 years in prison on the drug offenses in this case as a prior offender.

Missouri man accused of having sex with a cow

GREENE COUNTY, MO. - Deputies say a Fair Grove woman walked into her barn last month and found a man trying to have sex with her cow.

Darrell Helton, 68, of Nixa, was charged last week with unlawful sex with an animal after he was allegedly caught in the act.

According to a probable cause statement, a woman noticed an unknown car parked near her barn on the evening of June 10, so she went inside the barn to investigate.

As the woman entered, she saw a naked man — identified as Helton — standing behind one of her cows apparently having sex with the animal, according to the statement.

Helton allegedly told deputies with the Greene County Sheriff's Office that he went to the property in Fair Grove, caught a cow, tied it to the corral and tried to have sex with the animal.

The statement says Helton told authorities that was the second time he had engaged in sexual acts with a cow on that property.

Unlawful sex with an animal is a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by up to one year behind bars.

It does not appear Helton was jailed. Helton does not have an attorney listed for this case

Jacob Kyle "Kyle" McHorse, 30, of Blue Mound, Kansas died on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at his home after a life long battle with seizures. 

Kyle was born October 24, 1985 in Brownwood, TX to Randall and Kathy (Galloway) McHorse. In spite of his health, Kyle was an outgoing person who never met a stranger. 

He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing for bass and catfish and hunting morel mushrooms. He loved animals and raised four ducks. However, his greatest love in life and his favorite thing to do was spending time and playing with his two sons, Thomas and Aiden. Kyle was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Stephen McHorse; his maternal grandparents, James and Dean Galloway; and one uncle, Doug Galloway. Survivors include his parents, Randy and Kathy McHorse; two sons, Thomas James and Aiden Scott McHorse; one brother, Stephen Shane McHorse and wife Heather; two sisters, Amy Nicole Lunsford and husband Scott, and Lindsey Boswell and husband Chaz; three aunts, Karey Gail Morelock and husband Danny, Sandi Fincher, and Suzie Mould; three nieces; six nephews; and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life for Kyle will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Blue Mound City Park. The family suggests memorials to Epilepsy Foundation in care of the Schneider Funeral Home, PO Box J, Mound City, Kansas 66056.

Obituary - Roy VanWinkle

Roy VanWinkle, age 86 years, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, July 28, 2016. 

No visitation. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri.

Roy was born March 29, 1930 in Clinton, Missouri the son of Robert Lee and Zala (Stewart) VanWinkle. He was the youngest of four children.

On March 14, 1949 he married LaVonne (Teets) Miller. They had two daughters, Donna Jo and Darla Sue. Roy was a farmer and proud of it. He raised many hogs, a few cattle, and all the grain needed to feed them. He was a hard working man with "Teets" his wife at his side. After moving to Clinton they acquired several rental properties that kept him busy. He had a lot of fun pulling his tractor, and eventually won his goal of winning at the State Fair. Roy also loved to fish, visit with his friends, and he especially liked to play cards.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, LaVonne (Teets) VanWinkle; parents, Robert Lee and Zala VanWinkle, a brother, Robert VanWinkle, and two sisters, Viola Richeson and Violet Warden.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna Breshears (Lonnie) and Darla VanWinkle both of Clinton, MO, one grandson, Sean Elges of Clinton, MO, one granddaughter, Brandi Breshears (Seth) of Lee's Summit, MO, 3 great-grandkids; Andrea Custer (Shawn) of Clinton, MO, Haley Elges of Wentzville, MO, and Logan Elges of Osceola, MO, 3 great great-grandkids; Ryan Custer, Steven Custer, and Merrick Custer, as well as his best neighbor ever, Brett Loman.
