Nevada Police Department investigating Narcotics and Weapons Violation

Nevada Police are currently conducting an investigation in regards to a weapons and narcotics violation that occurred on Sunday, July 24, 2016.

On 7/24/16 an off-duty officer with the Nevada Police Department observed a vehicle in a business parking lot in the 300 block of east Austin Blvd. The officer’s attention was drawn to the vehicle when he observed an occupant in the vehicle holding a suspected drug pipe commonly used to ingest methamphetamines.

The off duty officer contacted on duty Nevada Police personnel and gave them a description of the suspect vehicle, and a direction of travel once the vehicle left the area. On duty police located the vehicle in a business parking lot in the 1500 block of east Austin Blvd.

Officers were able to contact the occupants of the suspect vehicle. Upon further investigation the suspected drug paraphernalia the off duty officer had seen earlier was recovered from the vehicle. Further investigation discovered the occupant of the vehicle had a loaded 9mm pistol in his back pocket. Suspected methamphetamine's and other paraphernalia were recovered during the investigation.

The individual with the loaded pistol informed officers he had a permit for the weapon in his back pocket. A follow up the next business day with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office revealed the suspect didn’t have the proper credentials for the weapon concealed on his person.

The suspected methamphetamine's will be sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol laboratory for further analysis. Once analysis are obtained the investigation will be sent to the Vernon County Prosecutor’s Office for the filing of formal charges.
