Clinton man arrested on failure to appear warrant

On 7/26/16 around 9:21am the Clinton Police Department arrested 31 year old Jeremy J. Jones of Clinton, Missouri.

Mr. Jones was arrested for 1.) Felony Clinton Police Department Warrant - Failure to appear 2.)Driving While Revoked 3.) Displaying plates of another 4.) Failure to maintain insurance.

He was booked into the Henry County Jail and is currently listed as bondable.

The Bates County Sheriffs Posse is seeking people interested in giving back to our community through service. The Sheriffs Posse was founded in 2009 with the purpose to assist the Sheriffs Office operations.

The Sheriffs Posse mainly participates in search and rescue efforts. In the past, the Posse has been dispatched to tornado devastated areas including Joplin. The Posse has also been dispatch to multiple missing person including elderly and small children.

The posse also participates in ride along with Deputies and assist in scene security at major incidents. 


Should the need arise for mass distribution of food, water and basic supplies in a disaster the Posse would assist in this much needed operation.

If you think you are interested in becoming part of an organization dedicated to the protection and service of our community please contact the Bates County Sheriffs Office for an application. 


To be considered for the Posse you must be able to pass a criminal/moral background check and drug test.

Harold D. Eastwood, 82 of Butler, Missouri passed away July 25, 2016 at Medicalodge in Butler. Graveside funeral services will be 3:30 PM Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Fontana Cemetery, Fontana, Kansas with Greg Mullinax officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM prior to services at Mullinax Funeral Home (660-679-0009) in Butler. Contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice. Harold David Eastwood was born March 1, 1934 in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Arthur and Doreta (McAddams) Eastwood. He grew up in the Fontana, Kansas area briefly but spent most of his early years in Kansas City, Kansas.

Harold held many occupations throughout his life, including at a gas station, Faultless Starch, and a battery company, but is best known for founding Eastwood Appliance.  The company originated in Kansas City, Kansas but currently is in Pleasanton, Kansas. Harold was gifted when it came to appliance repair and he imparted this knowledge on to his children.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren, and was a former member of the Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy Kay (Nyhart) Eastwood; and one brother, Charles “Bud” Eastwood. He is survived by his children: Davida Asher, David Lee Eastwood, Aaron Dean Eastwood, Jeffrey Allen Eastwood, Glenn William Eastwood, Sean Kelly Eastwood, Ronald Clint Eastwood; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

UPDATE: Butler man arrested after domestic disturbance on North Orange Street

On 2016-07-26 around 2100 hours Butler Police Department Officers were advised of a domestic disturbance with possible gun shots in the area of 208 North Orange Street. 

Officers arrived on scene and took a male subject into custody identified as Gerald L Shobe Jr.

During the investigation it was found that gun shots had been fired inside of the residence.


Officers recovered multiple firearms, explosives, narcotics and drug paraphernalia inside of the residence.

A warrant was issued for possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of illegal weapon (explosive device) and unlawful use of a weapon. Total bond was set at $25,000 Cash Surety.

At approx. 0900 an agent from the ATF responded to the Butler Police Station and took possession of the explosive devices to transport to their lab and to be properly destroyed.

The Butler Police Department was assisted by the Bates County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol and ATF.

Warsaw woman arrested in Cass County

Around 2:08pm this afternoon the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County arrested 44 year old Diana L. Looker of Warsaw, Missouri.

She was arrested for 1.) Felony Cass County Sheriffs Office Warrant 2.) Registration Violation 3.) No Seatbelt.

Diana L. looker was booked into the Cass County Jail and later released on a signature bond.

Vernon County Sex Offender Notification

The Vernon County Sheriffs Office would like to advise the public that registered sex offender Richard D. Burris ( 6/17/82) has moved from a address located at 233 S. Clay Street in Nevada.

Mr. Burris has a new address of 228 S. Lynn Street in Nevada.

He was convicted in Vernon County of Sexual Misconduct involving a child in 2006.

Butler man charged with multiple sexual assault crimes against minors

On July 6, 2016 Deputies took a report of sexual assault involving a minor child. The report was assigned to the Detectives to begin an investigation into the incident. 
During their investigation, Detectives gathered enough information to obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. 

The suspect is identified as David W. Weiss (DOB 3/8/1957) of Butler, MO, who is also a convicted felon. 

On July 27, 2016 The Bates County Sheriff’s Office with the help of the Western MO Cyber Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant at Weiss’s residence. During the search warrant they were able to seize marijuana, drug paraphernalia, firearms, and other evidence related to the case.

David Weiss was arrested at his residence and put on a 24 hour investigative hold. 


On July 27, 2016 Weiss was formally charged with the following: 
  • 4 counts of Statutory Rape in the 1st Degree (Sexual Intercourse with a Person less than 14 years old) 
  • 5 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree 
  • 1 count of Statutory Sodomy in the 1st Degree (Deviate Sexual Intercourse with a Person less than 14 years old) 
  • 1 count of Child Molestation in the 3rd Degree
The bond amount on the above charges was set at $350,000.00 cash only. Weiss is currently in custody at the Bates County Jail. 

More charges are expected to be filed on Weiss at a later date.
