Obituary - Leon Joseph Otter

 Leon Joseph Otter
Leon Joseph Otter, 61, Nevada, MO passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at his home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. Leon was born July 9, 1955 in Norton, KS to Arthur Thomas and Cecelia Katherine (Moos) Otter. On July 2, 1977 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Gay Keating in Nevada, MO and she survives of the home.

Leon was raised in the Norton, KS area. He came to Vernon County where he lived in Lamar and later Sheldon for a time. He came to Nevada for his senior year of high school and graduated with the Class of 1973. Following high school he worked in the lumber business with Sonny Lawrence in Deerfield and later worked at the Fram Corporation in Nevada for 22 years. Leon has operated property rentals for the past 20 years. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Leon enjoyed his membership at the YMCA coffee club, and fixing rental properties.

In addition to his wife Carolyn he is survived by two sons, J. Kelly Otter and his wife Margina, Nevada, Tyler Otter and is wife Kelly, Nevada; two daughters, Karalee Gerster, Nevada, Erin Forkner, Nevada; 12 grandchildren, Lakyn, Halley, Trent, Christina, Jerod, Jacob, Kelsie, Kenzie, Emma, Kate, Blair, and Blake; two great-granddaughters, Stratton, and Qwinley; three sisters, Anne Horst and her husband Dean, Amsterdam, MO, Delores Otter, Wichita, KS, Rose Otter, Nevada; three brothers, James Otter, El Dorado Springs, MO, Mark Otter and his wife Donna, Warrensburg, MO, and Quentin Otter, Sheldon, MO. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Otter, and an infant brother, Richard.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at St. Mary’s Christian Church in Nevada with Father Matthew Benjamin officiating. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. with visitation following from 7-8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada.


Donations may be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

William “Will” Darrell Hansell

William “Will” Darrell Hansell, 53, Nevada, MO passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO. Will was born October 2, 1962 in Kansas City, KS to Darrell William Krum and Rosemary Micheletta.

Will was raised in Kansas City until the age of 14 when he came to Milo, MO. He attended Nevada High School. Following high school Will lived and worked both in Nevada and Kansas City, MO for most of his adult life. 


He returned to Nevada in 2005 and has continued to reside here since that time. Will attended the Pentecostal Assembly Church in Nevada. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, and making trips to the casino.

Survivors include two children, Brian Hansell and his wife Lorie, Walker, MO, Anna Farmer and her husband Clinton, Moundville, MO; five grandchildren, Brianna Hansell, Noah Hansell, Britni Farmer, Joseph Farmer, Johnathan Farmer; his mother, Rosemary Jordan, Stover, MO; his brothers, and sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; his fiancé, Lori Fanning, Nevada; and his two dogs, Patches, and Isabel. He was preceded in death by his father,
Darrell William Krum and Rosemary Micheletta. 


Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. 

Memorials are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation in c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Frances Laverne Lauderback

Frances Laverne Lauderback, 75, Walker, MO passed from this life on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following an illness of several months. 

Frances was born April 4, 1941 in AL to Gordon W. and Agnes Irell (Seagraves) Elliott. In April of 1982 she was united in marriage to Paul E. Lauderback, Jr. and he survives of the home.

Frances met and married Paul in Los Angeles, CA in 1982. They moved to Vernon County in 2000 and made their home in Walker. They have continued to reside here since that time. Frances enjoyed her dogs and working with other farm animals. She also had a love for gardening.


In addition to her husband Paul she is survived by her children, Gene Napier and his wife Georgette, Phoenix City, AL, Laverne Hicks, Old Hickory, TN, Krystyn Lauderback, Los Angeles, CA, Debbi Lauderback, Los Angeles, CA; two grandchildren, Jessie Napier, Patricia Napier; two brothers, Robert Elliott, Myrtle Beach, SC, Roscoe Elliott, Columbus, GA; two sisters, Sue Mitchell, Phoenix City, AL, Dottie Presta, Las Vegas, NV; several nieces and nephews. 


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home.

Donations may be made in her memory to American Red Cross in c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Man shot and killed in Missouri after confrontation with homeowner

The authorities with the Dallas County Missouri Sheriffs Office have identified a man killed in a confrontation between a home owner and suspected burglary on Monday around Buffalo, Missouri. 
 
Dallas County Sheriff Mike Rackley says the homeowner confronted a intruder in his home shooting and killing the man. 
  
The subject killed was identified as James R. Teaster Sr.

Sheriff Rackley said that as of now it looks like the homeowner had reason and felt threatened by the intruder.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time and we will update when we know more.

Frank L. Grosshart, age 74, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the St. Luke''s Hospice House.

Graveside funeral service will be held 11am Monday, August 1, 2016 at the Pleasanton Cemetery. 


Visitation will be held Monday from 10am to service time at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Contributions are suggested to St. Luke''s Hospice House.

Texas Roadhouse in Belton burglarized

800lbs mixer stolen
The Texas Roadhouse in Belton, Missouri has suffered yet another setback this week when the business was burglarized. 

In the 1st photo the mixer on the right weighed 800 lbs and was taken in the box truck pictured in the surveillance photo. 

If anyone has any information on this burglary or the white box truck please contact Belton Police Department Detective Strong 816 - 348 - 4424.

Minor two vehicle accident in Butler

The Butler Police Department along with Bates County EMS is on scene of a minor two vehicle accident on the corner of High and Pine Streets in Butler.

The accident is between a 2003 Dodge truck driven by a unknown white male from Adrian who struck a 2014 Dodge passenger vehicle driven by a unknown female from Butler. 

No one is seriously injured in this accident and the ambulance is on scene for precaution.
