Arrest warrant issued for Rockville man

On July 28, a St. Clair County Sheriffs Office warrant was issued for Trent Lewis, 22, Rockville, Missouri charging him with class A misdemeanor theft his bond is set at $2,500 cash or surety.

The charge stems from a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office investigation on July 11 when Lewis, an employee of Casey's General Store, made a safe drop with no money attached to it. 


Video surveillance showed Lewis make a drop and then place the ticket and money on the drawer. 

Mr. Lewis then covered up the money on the drawer with his cell phone and a few minutes later he picked up his cell phone along with the money and put it into his pocket. His drawer was short $150 for the shift.

Lowry City man arrested and placed on no bond

On July 28, Kayne Gonzales, 20, Lowry City, was arrested on a no bond St. Clair County warrant for a probation violation in several cases. Gonzales is currently on probation for class B felony assault-first degree from a Lowry City Police Department investigation in August 2014.

He is also on probation for class C felony domestic assault-second degree and a misdemeanor charge of property damage-second degree. 

The charges stem from an incident on Nov. 24, 2014, when St. Clair County deputies were dispatched to a domestic assault on NE 700 Road, Lowry City.

Mr. Gonzales allegedly punched an individual in the face after kicking the door in and entering the residence without permission.

Theft at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City

On July 27th, a St. Clair County Sheriffs Deputy took a stealing report at Ellett Memorial Hospital, Appleton City. 

An employee, Bruce Goddard, reported a Samsung Galaxy Tab-4, 10.1 with black case stolen from a desk he had been sitting at. The tablet was estimated at $500. 

A suspect was named and the case was forwarded to the Appleton City Police Department for investigation.

Updated Obituary - Frank Lester Grosshart

Frank Lester Grosshart
Frank Lester Grosshart entered the world on May 13, 1942 and was taken into the loving arms of the Lord on July 28, 2016. Frank was born to Lloyd and Winnie (Gregg) Grosshart who lived by Boicourt, Kansas. 

He attended Pleasanton School and graduated in 1960. Frank spent all his life on the family farm and enjoyed life to the fullest. 

He loved to tractor pull, dance to all the old country music, visit with anyone he met, watch the red white faced calves, and spend time with his family. Frank never met a stranger he didn''t want to get to know.

Frank was married to Mary Lucile (Potts) Grosshart and they enjoyed doing things together. He is also survived by a daughter: Lona Grosshart; two step-daughters Anita Smith and husband Terry, Elizabeth Smith and husband Kenny: four grandchildren; Terry Joe Smith, Clarrisa Smith, Jeremiah Smith and Mariah Smith and six great-grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by: his parents Lloyd and Winnie Grosshart; one sister Wanda Lee Mitts; and step-son Michael Fisher.


Frank joined the Air Force in December 1965 and returned home to work alongside his father on the farm. Frank enjoyed going dancing at community dances and became a member of the Kansas Old Time Fiddlers and Pickers. He and Mary could cut a mean streak on the dance floor. Frank was very concerned for the community he lived in and became very involved in various committees such as: Linn Co. Farm Bureau President, Kansas Basin Water Advisory Committee, Trading Post Historical Society President, Linn Co. RWD#1 Board member, Linn Co. RWD#1 Board Representative to Wholesale Water, and Valley Township Central Precinct Committee.


Graveside funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, August 1, 2016 at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 am to service time at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Contributions are suggested to St. Luke''s Hospice House, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 525, Pleasanton, Kansas 66075.

Three black female basketball players file discrimination law suit against Cottey College in Nevada

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Three black women's basketball players alleged in a lawsuit that a small southwest Missouri college treated them differently than white students before expelling them without justification.

Breauna Carter, Amalia Harris and Dajanae Wilson, all of Kansas City, Missouri has filed the lawsuit Tuesday against Cottey College, a women's college of about 350 residential students in Nevada, Missouri, which had offered them all athletic and academic scholarships for the 2015-16 school year. 

The lawsuit contends the school violated the women's civil rights by creating a racially hostile environment, selectively enforcing its policies and procedures, and retaliating against them for complaining.
