Cedar County Prosecutor files appeal against judge in Brown murder case

Cedar County Prosecutor Ty Gaither has filed an appeal, challenging Judge Calvin Holden's decision to acquit Joshua Brown of second-degree murder and hindering the prosecution of a felony.

Mr. Brown is accused of the 2014 shooting death of Cedar County Sheriff's deputy Matt Chism after a traffic stop in Eldorado Springs, Missouri. 

The incident occurred in November of 2014 when Deputy Chism saw a pickup with its headlights off. When the driver wouldn't stop, a short vehicle pursuit ensued.

Deputy Chism was critically injured after gunshots were fired and he was taken to Cedar County Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Obituary - Sharon Thompson

Sharon Thompson
Sharon Thompson, age 65, passed away from cancer Wednesday, July 27th in her home in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Sharon was born July 13th, 1951 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was a 1969 graduate of Braymer High School and attended college at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.


She had a love of travel and a deep desire to see the world. Her travels included many parts of the United States, Europe, Canada and Mexico.


She enjoyed spending time with family, cross stitch, word puzzles, reading, and watching murder mysteries. Her favorites included Agatha Christie and Masterpiece Mysteries. 


Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Veneta Mae Graves and Gary Manford Wood, two sisters, Pam Wood and Marlene Shepardson, and a brother David Wood.

She is survived by her husband, Lee Thompson of Indianapolis, daughter Julie Howard and husband Michael of Fort Leonard Wood, son Shawn Hughson and wife Nickie of Braymer, son Michael Thompson of Indianapolis, stepson Gregory Thompson of Tampa, seven grandchildren, sisters- Brenda Sawyer of Webb City, Diane Drayer of Pleasant Hill, Sandy Archer of Springfield, and brothers- Gary Fisher of Rothville and Manny Wood of Joplin.

Columbia man arrested in Bates County


On 7/29/16 around 8:43pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 24 year old Shawn J. Houser of Columbia, Missouri.

Mr. Houser was arrested for 1.) Felony Possession of a controlled substance - Methamphetamine's 2.) Speeding.

He was booked into the Bates County jail and later bonded out.

Central Missouri man arrested for promoting child pornography

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control announces the arrest of Mickie A. Dominis, 30, of Warrensburg, Missouri, for promoting child pornography. 

Mr. Dominis was arrested on July 28, 2016, after a lengthy investigation conducted by members of the Division of Drug and Crime Control’s Digital Forensics Investigative Unit.

On Thursday, investigators served a search warrant at Dominis’ residence located on the 500 block of West Young Street, in Warrensburg. As a result of the search, investigators located child pornography and computer equipment used to commit the crime. Dominis was arrested and transported to the Johnson County Jail.


The Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office formally charged Dominis with one count of promoting child pornography 1st degree. Dominis is being held with a $30,000 cash only bond. The Patrol was assisted by officers of the Warrensburg Police Department.


The above arrest is mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of this charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

Obituary - Billy Ralph Brown

Billy Ralph Brown, 92, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Friday, July 29, 2016 at Meadow View of Harrisonville. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.

Billy was born February 10, 1924 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the son of Earl and Gladys (Arnold) Brown. He worked as a carpenter and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He married Grace Moreland on September 29, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri.


Billy was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Terry Brown, four brothers, Jack, Jim, Leonard, and Paul, one sister, Imogene, and his wife, Grace. He is survived by one son, John Brown and wife, Angelea, Garden City, Missouri; three daughters, Pat Demoret and husband, Kelly, Creighton, Missouri, Becky Cruse and husband, Earl, Archie, Missouri, and Pam Snell and husband, Rick, Latour, Missouri; one sister, Ruth Hoke and husband Jack, Sun City, Arizona; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Belton woman arrested in Polk County held on no bond

On 7/29/16 around 12:01am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Polk County arrested 28 year old Angela G. Mitchell of Belton, Missouri.

She was arrested for 1.) Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine 2.) Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia 3.) Felony Probation and Parole Warrant out of Missouri 4.) Three Misdemeanor Belton Police Department warrants for traffic violations.

Angela G. Mitchell was booked into the Polk County Jail and placed on no bond.
