Updated Obituary - Delbert Lee Johnston

Delbert Lee Johnston
Delbert Lee Johnston, 71 of Nevada, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Nevada. Delbert was born to Robert Newton Johnston and Ruth Shirley (Robertson) Johnston on April 3, 1945 in El Dorado Springs, MO. Delbert graduated Walker High School in 1963. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Delbert was a lifetime resident of Vernon County. He was a local business owner, auctioneer and avid horseman. He was an Elder at the First Christian Church and served on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Buckskin Horse Association. Delbert was employed by multiple local businesses including Montgomery Wards, Kemper Insurance and Yellow Freight. He was the founder and owner of Delbert Johnston Auction Company and Delbert Johnston Rentals, LLC. Delbert often played a key role in the lives of children and adults who shared his love of horses. He was well known in the community for his support of youth programs, a boisterous laugh, and unrelenting teasing.


Delbert was previously married to Loretta Lyon from 1964-1990. From that marriage he is survived by his daughter Traci LeAnn Land of Katy, TX and her husband, Greg Land and four grandchildren Jonathan Land, Jason Land, Allison Land, and Amanda Land, and his son Russell Del Johnston of Omaha, NE and partner Thaddeus Robertson and two grandchildren Dylan Johnston and Daisy Johnston. He is also survived by siblings Wanda Johnston, Don Johnston, Edna Tivis and Dallas Johnston.


He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Junior Johnston, Nola Bruce, Kenneth Johnston, Keith Johnston, Karrol Johnston, Paul Johnston, Duane Johnston, Betty Payne, Lyle Johnston, Darrell Johnston, Darwin Johnston, and Franklin Delano Johnston.


A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor David Rorabaugh officiating. 


A burial will follow at Moore Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to First Christian Church Youth Ministry programs.

Bates County Route B Bridge Replacement Focus of August 11 Public Meeting in Rich Hill

Rich Hill -- A project to replace the deteriorating bridge on Bates County Route B over the Bates County Drainage Ditch Overflow approximately two miles east of Rich Hill will be the focus of a public meeting on Thursday, Aug. 11, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The come-and-go style meeting will be held 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, in the auditorium of Rich Hill R-IV High School, 703 N. 3rd Street in Rich Hill. NO FORMAL PRESENTATION IS PLANNED.

For those unable to attend the in-person meeting, an online public meeting will be available and it will go “live” on Thursday afternoon.

The plans for the project will be posted to the online meeting at www.modot.org/southwest.

The bridge, built in 1934, has experienced significant deterioration.

The Project :

The bridge will be replaced with a new structure.


During construction, Route B will be CLOSED. There will be no signed detour, but drivers will have access to Interstate 49, Missouri Route 52, Bates County Route N and local roads to travel around the work zone. However, drivers will NOT be able to cross the bridge during construction.


The estimated total cost of the project is $1.2 million. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2017 with completion in the fall of that year.

Three teens injured in Henry County crash

Around 11:43pm last night the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with the Cass County Sheriffs Office and Windsor Fire Department responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on County Road 1051 just North of Missouri 2 Highway in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1995 Ford Ranger driven by 17 year old Lane D. Divine of Windsor, Missouri lost control of the vehicle on a curve causing the vehicle to travel off the left side of the roadway and overturn.

Mr. Divine as well as two passengers in his vehicle 15 year old Zane L. Elwell and 14 year old Kelsy D. Hampton both of Windsor, Missouri all sustained moderate injuries in this accident.

Two of the teens were transported by ambulance to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment. 

Lane D. Divine was transported by ambulance to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence for treatment. 

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Jay's Tow of Windsor, Missouri

Butler Police Department participating in drug take back campaign

The Butler Police Department will be participating in the DEA Drug Takeback campaign. 

The Butler Police along with the Bates County Health Department will be participating in the drug turn in program sponsored by the DEA. 

The turn in location will be the Bates Co Health Dept. located at 501 N Orange Butler Missouri on October 22, 2016 between the hours of 10 am to 2 pm. 

We will be accepting any prescription and non-prescription medication which will be turned over to the DEA for destruction. We will not accept syringes or inhalers.
 

The Butler Police also have a medication drop box located in the lobby of the Butler Police Station that meds can be dropped off at anytime.
