Voter turnout for Missouri primary was about 25 percent

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - About one-fourth of Missouri's registered voters turned out to cast ballots in the state's primary elections.

Secretary of State Jason Kander said Wednesday that more than 1 million people voted in Tuesday's primaries - a turnout of 24.8 percent.

The top attraction was the Missouri governor's race. The four-way Republican primary won by former Navy SEAL officer Eric Greitens drew nearly 684,000 votes. 

The Democratic governor's race, which was won by Attorney General Chris Koster, had more than 324,000 votes.

The overall turnout fell short of the 31 percent that had been predicted by election authorities.

The primary winners will face off in the Nov. 8 general election.

Two suspects remain at-large after pursuit of stolen vehicle in Cass County

A police pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended with a gunshot victim and two escaped suspects.

The pursuit began in Henry County when the driver of what was later identified as a stolen Kansas City, Kan., vehicle failed to yield to a trooper’s efforts to stop the vehicle for speeding.

Sgt. Collin Stosberg of the Missouri Highway Patrol said the pursuit ended near the weigh station south of Harrisonville early Sunday morning, July 31.

Obituary - James E. Dykes

Funeral services for James E. Dykes formerly of Adrian, Missouri will be 4 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at East View Baptist Church in Kilgore, Texas. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Burial in Kilgore Cemetery, Kilgore, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations to Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief.

Today we celebrate James Dykes homecoming. He is celebrating his 86th birthday in heaven today. James Eldridge Dykes was born August 5, 1930 to HL and Rena Dykes in Rusk, Texas. He was the fourth child in a family of eight. He grew up with Daniel, Irene, Dorothy, Wayne, Kenneth, Delvin and Evelyn in East Texas. He worked in the East Texas oil fields and lumber camps before he joined the Air Force in 1948 when he was 17. He proudly served his country for 20 years.

He met and married Joanne Nash and together they traveled across the country and overseas. They raised two children, James Frank and Linda Anne. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a carrier for the US Postal Service for 20 years. After that retirement, he and Joanne went on several home mission trips and also worked with Texas Baptist Men's Disaster Relief.

After Joanne's death in 2004, he married Sandra Moore in 2009, and added her two children to the family, Kim and Kevin. James was a farmer and cattle man, a Baptist deacon, a Disaster Relief cook and dishwasher, a proud veteran, a fix-it-guy. He was a pillar in his community and was well loved and respected. He supported his family and gave whole-heartedly his whole life. He loved to play dominoes, eat good food, and laugh.

He died on August 2nd, surrounded by family and friends in Kansas City. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, and his children, James and his wife Margaret, Linda, Kim and her husband Ed, Kevin and his wife Deana and their children, Ken, Liz, Travis, Luke, Julie, Sandy, Sarah, Trey, Breanna, and Maddi. Plus numerous nieces and nephews, great grandchildren and his sister Evelyn.

Nevada Police Department Investigate Weekend Business Burglary

The Nevada Police Department are currently conducting an investigation in regards to a weekend business burglary.

On 7/31/16 Nevada Police were contacted by a local business at 400 S. Johnson Dr. in regards to a burglary. Management told police that an employee came in on the morning of the 31st and noticed the business had been burglarized. 

Staff and law enforcement reviewed the video surveillance of the business. It was discovered that multiple subjects wearing clothing items over their face and heads unlawfully entered the building in order to steal an undisclosed amount of money.

The Nevada Police conducted follow ups with other local businesses in the area and were able to capture the alleged suspect’s faces on video. Officers presented this information to the management staff of the burglarized business, and they identified one of the subjects as an employee of their establishment.

On 8/2/16 Nevada Police detectives received information from the Lamar, Missouri Police Department that they had arrested one of the suspects on un-related charges and during their investigation they have recovered a large sum of money that belonged to the Nevada business.

Nevada Police responded to Barton County, Missouri and were able to take possession of the stolen property that was recovered by Lamar Police. That property has since been returned to the business where it was stolen from.

One of the suspects has been identified as Nevada resident, 30 year old, Douglas Derry. The Vernon County Associate Court has issued the following warrants; Burglary 2nd degree, class C Felony, Theft/Stealing C, Felony, with a cash bond of $7,500. He is being held in the Vernon County Jail.

The second suspect has been identified as Nevada resident, 28 year old, Charles E Bishop. The Vernon County Associate Court has issued the following warrants for his arrest; Burglary 2nd degree, class C Felony, Theft/Stealing, class C Felony. Cash bond of $7,500. Bishop is still at large and law enforcement officials are looking for him.

Clinton man arrested on 2nd Degree Child Molestation Charges

On 8/2/16 around 4:09pm the Clinton Police Department arrested 43 year old Thomas H. Boyles of Clinton, Missouri.

Mr. Boyles was arrested for 1.) Two counts of 2nd Degree Child Molestation - fondling.

He was booked into the Henry County Jail and placed on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.

Water District #6 Customers Will Be Without Water Thursday Morning, August 4th

Residents of Butler Public Water District #6 will be without water on Thursday morning, August 4th.

Crews will be performing maintenance on lines. The work is scheduled to begin around 9am on Thursday. It is not expected to take long, but residents will be without water temporarily in the morning hours.

This will effect residents on East Mill St., along the North side of H Hwy. to UU Hwy, and back to Patty Ford Road.
