Warrant and drug arrest made in Bates County

On August 4, 2016 Deputies conducted a vehicle stop on a female subject who was known to have a warrant. 

The subject was identified as Casey Gregory (DOB 1/29/99). Gregory had an outstanding warrant for Possession of up to 35 grams of Marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. 

The bond amount was $15000.00 cash or surety. When Deputies were placing Gregory under arrest she advised them that she had a pipe in her pocket. She also had a tin in her pocket that contained pills and baggies that had a crystal residue in them. 

During the Deputies search of her car they located more drug paraphernalia. 

Casey Gregory was transported to the Bates County Jail and is expected to have more charges filed against her.

Obituary - David VanDeberg

David Charles VanDeBerg, 53, of Eldon, Missouri died Tuesday, August 2, 2016 as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Deepwater, Mo.

He was born February 27, 1963 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the son of Howard Lee VanDeBerg and Mary Virginia (Ebel) VanDeBerg.

David was employed with Smith Paper in Eldon, Mo., as a delivery driver for 10 years.


He is survived by one son, Shane Michael VanDeBerg of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandsons, Bentley Michael VanDeBerg, Abel Jaxen VanDeBerg, and Judd August VanDeBerg, all of Jefferson City, Mo.; parents, Howard and Mary VanDeBerg , Eldon, Mo.; and one brother, John Lee VanDeBerg, Eldon, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles Earl Ebel and Meredith Helen Ebel; and paternal grandparents, William Ralph VanDeBerg and Lavonne JoAnn VanDeBerg.

Memorial services are planned for a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton, Mo.

New sex offender registered in Vernon County

The Vernon County Sheriffs Office would like to advise the public of a new sex offender that has been registered in the county.

The subject is Kenneth G. Peppinger (11/24/90) who has moved into to a address located at 1974 E. Canton Road in Hume, Missouri.


Mr. Peppinger was convicted of 1.) Contributing to a child's misconduct in 2011 in Olathe, Kansas.

Obituary - Mary Virginia Miller

Graveside services for Mary Virginia Miller will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2016 at Westpoint Cemetery in Amsterdam, Missouri. There is no visitation. Services under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri.

Mary Virginia Miller, age 89 of Sedalia, Missouri, formerly of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born June 15, 1927 to Jerry Marion Donelly and Cora Maria Alexander Stitt in Rockville, Kansas.


Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn Aleshire and husband Mark Baker of Warrensburg, Missouri; one son-in-law, Gerald Seelinger of Warrensburg, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Chloe Bigger and Hailey Forence. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Patricia Marie Seelinger and Caroline Aleshire; and one brother, Melvin Arthur Stitt.

Today we celebrate James Dykes homecoming. He is celebrating his 86th birthday in heaven today. James Eldridge Dykes was born August 5, 1930 to HL and Rena Dykes in Rusk, Texas. He was the fourth child in a family of eight. James grew up with Daniel, Irene, Dorothy, Wayne, Kenneth, Delvin and Evelyn in East Texas. He worked in the East Texas oil fields and lumber camps before he joined the Air Force in 1948 when he was 17. He proudly served his country for 20 years.

James met and married Joanne Nash and together they traveled across the country and overseas. They raised two children, James Frank and Linda Anne. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a carrier for the US Postal Service for 20 years. After that retirement, James and Joanne went on several home mission trips and also worked with Texas Baptist Men's Disaster Relief.

After Joanne's death in 2004, he married Sandra Moore in 2009, and added her two children to the family, Kim and Kevin. James was a farmer and cattle man, a Baptist deacon, a Disaster Relief cook and dishwasher, a proud veteran, a fix-it-guy. James was a pillar in his community and was well loved and respected. He supported his family and gave whole-heartedly his whole life. He loved to play dominoes, eat good food, and laugh.

He died on August 2nd, surrounded by family and friends in Kansas City. James is survived by his wife, Sandra, and his children, James and his wife Margaret, Linda, Kim and her husband Ed, Kevin and his wife Deana and their children, Ken, Liz, Travis, Luke, Julie, Sandy, Sarah, Trey, Breanna, and Maddi, plus numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his sister Evelyn.
