Clinton man hurt in scooter accident in Henry County
On 8/19/16 around 7:00am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with the Henry County Sheriffs Office responded to a two vehicle accident involving a scooter on Missouri 7 Highway around 1 mile North of NW 1101 Road in rural Henry County.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 50 CC Taotao Scooter driven by 47 year old Dennis R. Akins of Clinton, Missouri traveled into the path of the 2010 Chevrolet driven by 27 year old Zachary L. Danner of Windsor, Missouri.
Mr. Akins sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported to Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The scooter was totaled and towed from the scene by Golden Valley Tow.

Topeka man arrested in Vernon County
On 8/19/16 around 12:42pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County arrested 21 year old Weston L. Mikolett of Topeka, Kansas.
Mr. Mikolett was arrested 1.) Felony Fugitive from out of state.
He was booked into the Vernon County Jail and is currently placed on no bond.

Obituary - Marguerite Ellen Sims

Marguerite was a member of the La Cygne United Methodist Church and the UMW, American Legion Auxiliary, Delta Sigma Chi Bridge Club, and the La Cygne Fiesta Committee. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Judith Turentine, two son in law, James Turentine and James Sims-West, two brothers, William and Warren, and three sisters, Helen, Virginia and Francis. Marguerite is survived by two sons, Thomas Sims and wife Barbara, Warren Sims and wife Cristie, a daughter, Nancy Sims-West, two brothers, Don and Milton Skeens, a sister, Marie Shelden eight grand and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am Monday, August 22, 2016 at the La Cygne United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Sunday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the La Cygne United Methodist Church. As a baby, Dean, along with his family moved to a farm near Stockton, MO where he grew up. Dean attended school in Stockton and graduated from Stockton High School. Following his school years he moved to Nevada where he met and married Lee Mitchem on August 27, 1960 and she survives of the home. Dean worked at various jobs throughout his life including the Nevada Hatchery, several filling stations, Everette Artimage Hardware Store (on the propane side), Nevada Skell Gas as a repairman, and later Gitty Oil Company as a propane repairman. He also raised cattle for several years on the farm. He later sold them when Lee retired so they could spend their winters in Texas at a RV park, which they continued to do for 13 years.
Dean’s interests were varied. He especially loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, tending to the fish pond and planting trees. He was a devoted family man who adored his wife, daughters, the grandchildren, and the cat “PeeWee”. He was a good neighbor and was known by many as “Deano”. Dean enjoyed playing pool at the Senior Center, the “Nevada Group” had several pool tournaments with Stockton pool players. Dean never met a stranger and he made friends where ever he went.
In addition to his wife Lee, he is survived by his daughters, Vicky Green, Joplin, and Tammy Davenport (Rick), Bates City, MO; grandchildren, Sarah Green, Racheal Erdman, Jeff Erdman, and David Davenport; one great-granddaughter, Elaina Erdman; brothers, David Stroer and his wife Alma, Nevada, Marion Stroer and his wife Jill, Douglasville, GA; brother-in-law, Raymond Mitchem, Nevada; aunt, May Bales, Wichita, KS; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Sarah Horning; nephew, Charles Horning; sister, Betty Horning; brother-in-law Gene Horning, and a brother-in-law, Chuck Mitchem.
Dean’s wish was to take his last breath at his home, surrounded by his family. Special thanks to Heartland Hospice of Butler and to family and friends who helped to make Dean’s wish come true.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in his memory to the Nevada Senior Center, Heartland Hospice, or Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center in c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

UPDATE: Archie man injured in accident South of Butler on I-49
On 8/18/16 around 3:21pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Butler Fire Department and Bates County EMS responded to a one vehicle accident in the Northbound Lanes of I-49 at Mile Marker 125.4.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2016 Toyota driven by 74 year old Demetrius Kasomenos of Archie, Missouri crossed the median and traveled off the North side of the roadway coming to rest down a embankment.
Mr. Kasomenos sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by Bates County EMS to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The vehicle received minor damages and was towed from the scene by Adrian Tow.

Obituary - Nancy D. Coffey
Nancy D. Coffey, 81, Nevada, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at her home in Nevada. Nancy was born April 1, 1935 to Elwood J. and Jennie (Wiles) Thorpe in Kansas City, MO. She was united in marriage to Leonard J. Coffey on March 18, 1959 in Miami, OK and he preceded her in death on November 27, 2005 Nancy moved to Vernon County at a young age. She attended school in Metz and graduated with the Class of 1953. Nancy was employed by Spencer and Hatch in Nevada for 24 years until her retirement in 1994. In 1986 she moved to the Nevada area where she has continued to reside. Nancy was a longtime member of Rinehart Christian Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, dining out, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include three sons, William D. Jacks, Jr. (Barbara), Nevada, and Michael James Coffey (Dana), Inola, OK; one daughter, Lynette R. Felber, Overland Park, KS; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma Pointer, Kansas City, MO; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Leonard, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Daniel Allen Jacks; one grandson, Lindsey Cunningham; siblings, Jack Thorpe, Joanne Mehrhoff, Myra Booras, Tom Thorpe, John Thorpe, and Jimmy Thorpe.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Ricky Walles officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rich Hill. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born January 3, 1970 in Kansas City, Kansas , the son of Lawrence Ray Crow and Paula Joelene (Stamps) Crow.
William loved working in his garden, riding motorcycles, and listening to rock and roll music.
Surviving are four daughters, Ambrosia Crow, Roeland Park, KS., Tianna Crow, Roeland Park, KS., Stephanie Morris, Clinton, MO., and Kelsey Grammer, Clinton, MO.; one son Cody Grammer, Clinton, MO.; two grandsons, Augustin Kinney, Jr., and Wyatt Beasley; his mothers, Paula Olson, Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and Shirley Crow, Warsaw, MO.; one brother, Tim Crow, Sapulpa, OK,; one sister, Lori Crow-Smith and husband Shawn, Warsaw, MO.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
It was William's wishes to be cremated. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton, MO.
