Barbara “Kay” Walker, 83, Goodyear, Arizona, formerly of Harrisonville, Missouri, died Monday, September 12, 2016 in Arizona. 

Funeral services are pending at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. 

Service times and a complete obituary will be posted when information is available.

Butler man escapes injury in Bates County crash

On 9/12/16 around 6:35am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County responded to a two vehicle accident in the Northbound Lanes of I-49 at Mile Marker 137.8 just North of Passiac.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when both vehicles were traveling Northbound and the 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by 57 year old Hayward J. Godfrey of Buckhannon,West Virginia was struck from behind by the 2001 Ford Focus driven by 38 year old Christopher  L. Strauss of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Godfrey sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by Bates County EMS to Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler for treatment.

Don's Tow of Butler was called to the scene to tow the Ford Focus of Mr. Strauss and the Oldsmobile was secured and left roadside.

 It's still fresh in most minds- where you were and what you were doing when you first heard of the events that unfolded on September 11, 2001.

Not to be forgotten is not only those who tragically lost their lives, but those who are still living- relatives and loved ones. And those who are in the business of helping others, police, fire fighters, first responders and more.

Yesterday, as with every year since the 9/11 tragedy, the Adrian Fire Department hosted a commemorative event that paid respect to those who died, and as importantly, those who on a daily basis continue to protect citizens in every way possible. 

The event started with a silent procession of over a mile of emergency vehicles through town to the Optimist building that included emergency personnel from as far away as Lowry City and points further.


The program paid full homage to not only emergency responders, police and fire fighters, but those in all military branches, past and present.

According to Adrian Fire Chief Gary Dizney, yes, there will be program next year as well- we can never forget those who gave then, and continue to give now, every day.

Jennifer Hall is selling and organizing this sale. City Hall will not be issuing these permits.
