Poplar Heights Living History Farm Presents: Fright Farm

Kids - Halloween is coming and so is FRIGHT FARM - October 28 & 29.
When the darkness creeps up on Poplar Heights Living History Farm, it brings with it ghosts and goblins, witches and spooky creatures. Take a guided walk around the grounds, house and barns with scares and frights at every turn. But don't be too scared - this is a fun-filled family oriented Halloween event specially designed for kids. Enjoy complimentary popcorn around the fire and hot cider from the witch's cauldron. Finish off the evening with a hay ride thru the dark, dark woods.
Tickets are $5.00 - in advance - for all ages (recommended 4 & up). Guided walks start every 1/2 hour beginning at 6:00 pm. You must get your ticket in advance and be scheduled for a specific walk time. Each guided walk is limited to just 15 thrill seekers. Bring the whole family and go as a group. Deputies Investigate Fatal Single vehicle crash in Cass County

Cass Co. – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a single car fatal accident in the 14000 block of E 271st Street Harrisonville.

Deputies responded to the area of E. 271st and E. St. Rt. 2 west of Harrisonville at 7:53 a.m. after a motorist reported seeing a vehicle overturned in a creek.  

Investigators at the scene believe the vehicle drove off the south side of the road and overturned in a small creek submerging part of the car.  It is unknown at this time how long the vehicle had been in the creek.

The female driver, Toye R. Click,  49, of Cleveland Missouri was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Ms. Click was the only occupant of the vehicle. 

The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office will help determine the cause and time of death.

Person of interest in hit and run identified

The Cass County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against a person of interest identified by investigators with the Metro Squad and Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Cody J. Alford, 20, of Peculiar has been charged with Felony Leaving Scene of Motor Vehicle Accident. 

Mr. Alford is currently in custody at the Cass County Jail being held on a $10,000 bond.

Updated obituary - Susan E. Brunner

Susan E. Brunner, 59 of Amsterdam, Missouri passed away September 19, 2016 at her home in the Merwin area. A Celebration of life will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Amsterdam Community Building, in Amsterdam, Missouri. Susan Elaine Brunner was born July 30, 1957 in Paola, Kansas to Raymond and Juanita Champlin Dyer. She attended both Drexel and Miami Schools. Susan was a proud member of the Local Laborer's Union 1290. Susan was her own person, she simply lived life the way that she wanted, enjoying her flowers, cats, sewing, crafts, and gardening. She also liked canning and preserving. One of Susan's greatest loves in her life was her family, each of them brighten her life in there own way. She loved her kids, her grandkids especially and all her dear friends. 


Susan was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Dyer, grandparents, Dean and Thelma Champlin, and Lillian Huene-feldt. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Lowe and husband Raymond, and Amy MacLeod, son Tom Hackler and wife Kyla, mother Juanita Dyer, brothers, Clifford, Roger, and Raymond Dyer, sister Janet Lane, and grandchildren, Baxter, Jessie, Isabel, Brooke, Tommy, Korbin, Kadee, Shane, Shelby, John, Abby, and Alex.

BREAKING: Subject in custody in hit and run case near Harrisonville

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Metro Squad currently have a person of interest in custody in the death of Megan E. Wheeler. Information gathered by law enforcement identified the person. A vehicle related to the case has also been recovered. The person was brought in yesterday afternoon for questioning.

Currently investigators are working with the Cass County Prosecuting Attorney. No charges have been issued at this time.
