Louise M. Wagenblast

Louise Mae Wagenblast, 90, Peculiar, Missouri, died Saturday, October 1, 2016 at her home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the West Union Cemetery in Cleveland, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to: First Baptist Church Elevator Fund, P.O. Box 325, Peculiar, MO 64078.

Louise was born April 17, 1926 in Peculiar, Missouri, the daughter of William John and Emma Venita (Knudsen) Dahm. She was a 1943 graduate of Peculiar High School and received her Master’s in Education from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. Louise taught school for 38 years, starting at Centerview Rural School #69 in 1943. She also taught at West Line and Cleveland schools, before retiring in 1981 from Raymore-Peculiar School District.

Louise was a member of the First Baptist Church in Peculiar and was a member and past Worth Matron of the Elizabeth Chapter Order of Eastern Star in Belton, Missouri. She was a life-long resident of Peculiar.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilbur on December 18, 2012, and her grandson, Cpt. Christopher Johnson. She is survived by two daughters, Marie Woolery and Margaret Johnson, both of Peculiar, Missouri; one sister, Dorothy Arnold of Orrick, Missouri; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

The streets of Amsterdam roar to life this weekend...

It may have been a wee bit loud in Amsterdam early Saturday morning...Terry Burgoon led the Legion Riders of Paola to the Amsterdam cafe for some good grub and friendly conversation. The group of about 30 stayed for around an hour before heading off to other destinations.

Missing person call yields two felony drug arrests

On Oct. 1, Erik Novotny, 27, and Sierra Bartels, 25, both of Osceola, were arrested on St. Clair County warrants charging them each with class B felony distribution/ delivery/ manufacture/ produce a controlled substance class C felony maintaining a public nuisance, class A misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and class A misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Novotny was also arrested on a Henry County warrant for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge of driving while revoked. Novotny’s total bond is $20,200 cash/surety. Bartels’ bond is set at $20,000 cash or surety.

The charges stem from a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office investigation the previous day when deputies were dispatched to NE 601 Road, Osceola, in reference to Novotny being lost in the woods. Information was obtained Novotny was wanted on an active Henry County misdemeanor warrant for failing to appear in court. Novotny was evidentially located and taken into custody on the warrant. Two used glass pipes containing residue consistent with the smell of burned marijuana and two opened packages of Zig-Zag ultra thin rolling papers were located in Novotny’s possession.

During further investigation three marijuana plants were discovered growing inside Novotny and Bartels’ residence. Other items located in the residence included , a clear plastic bag containing approximately 14 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, a mechanical scale, a skull shaped marijuana grinder, an Aleve bottle containing marijuana seeds, and a homemade smoking device.

Partners In Pastures to Meet October 24

On Monday, October 24, the Partners in Pasture grazing group will meet at the Morris and Bergman farms at 5 p.m. near Urich. Partners in Pasture is a group of livestock producers who meet at farms and discuss grazing management and economics. They meet every other month during the growing season. There will be a hayride tour of the pastures to look at weed control with herbicides, grazing and mowing. After returning at 6 p.m. there will be a discuss of those topics. The meeting ends with a potluck dinner. Hot dogs, buns, drinks and paper supplies will be provided. Bring a dish to share and folding chairs.

Directions are: From 18 highway at Ballard go north on BB highway 4.5 miles. Go right (east) on MM highway .5 miles. They are the first house on the south (right) side of the road. Big white bulk feeder says 70 Ranch. House is brick and log with big rock fire place. From 7 highway in Urich go south on K highway 2 miles out of town, turn west (right) onto MM highway. Go approximately 7 miles, house is on the south (left) side. If you get to BB highway you have gone too far. Watch for Extension signs!

Great week for Lady bears...

The JV Lady Bears had a very successful week in competition last week! They started out on Monday defeating a very tough Stockton team 25-16, 26-24. On Thursday we traveled to University Academy and won that Conference match 25-16, 25-12. Lilli Colburn led the charge with 16 service points, with 4 of them aces. On Saturday the girls competed in the Adrian JV Tournament. In pool play we won all 3 matches, beating Drexel 25-13, 25-13, Lakeland 25-21, 25-16, and Osceola 25-12, 25-23. They moved on to play the 2nd place finisher from the other pool, which was Archie. We were victorious over them 25-17, 25-19. This qualified us to play for the Championship! We played our host school and arch rivals--the Adrian Blackhawks. Sadly we lost 2 hard fought close games 23-25, 24-26 placing 2nd!. Lilli Colburn led all Butler scorers with 37 points on the day with 10 aces, Jayde Eidson had 26 points -2 aces, and both Hunter Ward and Olivia Fischer had 12 points. Alicen Beckley led the team at the net having many crucial downed spikes and tip kills. 

I am very proud of this team and their effort and hard work! We are now 17-3 for the season with 3 matches remaining. Please congratulate these girls on their 2nd place finish if you see them!

Adrian Elementary School named one of the best in the nation

Adrian Elementary uses a hands-on, student centered approach to learning

U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr., announced today that Adrian Elementary School has been named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School. 
 
Adrian Elementary School is one among 279 public and 50 private schools receiving this honor. 

Schools are nominated for the award by the state department of education, and then complete a comprehensive application about school practices. Schools may apply for status as Exemplary High Performing—among the top schools in a state—or Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing—schools making the fastest progress in the their state in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. 

Connie Reynolds and Treva Smith will represent Adrian Elementary School at a two-day awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., to celebrate their hard-won achievements.

Theodore Lee DeLozier

Theodore Lee DeLozier, age 73, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Brunswick Nursing Home, Brunswick, Missouri. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Vansant-Mills Funeral Chapel, Clinton, Missouri. 

Visitation will be 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. prior to funeral service. Interment will be in the Tebo Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. A celebration of life will be held 2:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Sherry's Home Cooking in Brunswick, Missouri. Family suggests memorial contributions to Deepwater Baptist Church Youth or Tebo Cemetery and can be left in care of funeral home. Ted was born August 4, 1943 in Pasadena, California, the second child to Theodore G. DeLozier and Opal N. Brown DeLozier. Ted grew up in Deepwater, Missouri and lived with his grandparents, Walter Everette and Leah Eunice Brown. As a youth he attended the Deepwater Public Schools for 8 years and belonged to the Deepwater Boy Scout Troop 432. Ted went on to become a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and served as an adult leader for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Ted married Sylvia Jean Moore on October 31, 1963 and was blessed with two children, Deborah "Debbie" Jean and Anthony "Tony" Gray.

Ted attended Career School of Real Estate in Springfield, Missouri and enjoyed himself as a Missouri Real Estate Broker with Strout Realty and Ted DeLozier Real Estate. He founded Lakeside Electric in Deepwater and rebuilt alternators, starters and generators. He then worked for Furniture House at Butler, Missouri for many years. He was also a certified Ford Technician under the direction of Mid-Way Ford of Kansas City and Friendly Ford of Springfield. Some of the other places Ted worked include Santa Fe International Builders Company in the oil fields, Knox Construction of Grand Island, PAR Electric North Kansas City and Howard Construction.

Ted was an active square dancer for many years and was a member of MO-KAN Singles of Nevada, Tanglefoot Square of Brookfield, Single Promenaders of Kansas City, MO., and the Heart of America Single Square Dance Association.

Ted's greatest love was farming and gardening. He farmed in Hickory, Benton and Morgan Counties. He loved sharing the garden "goodies" with everyone he could.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Ted is survived by a special friend of the home, Pam Tietjens and his beloved dog, Toby; 2 children, Debbie Dody, Clinton, Missouri and Tony DeLozier, Osceola, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Nathaniel (Tonya) Dody, Clinton, Missouri, Dakota (Janiece) DeLozier, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and A.J. DeLozier, Independence, Missouri; 2 great grandchildren, Hayden Dody and Gabriel DeLozier; 2 siblings, William "Bill" DeLozier, Deepwater, Missouri and Betty (Kerwin) Hafner, Ocala, Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.

Creighton teen escapes serious injury in Cass County crash

On 10/2/16 around 1:30pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri 291 just south of 191 Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2009 Ford Flex driven by 65 year old Roger W. Noe of Blue Springs, Missouri was slowing and struck in the rear by a 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by 17 year old Joshua K. Adams of Creighton, Missouri.

Mr. Adams sustained minor injuries in this accident and he refused medical treatment at the scene.

Both vehicle sustained moderate damages and one was towed from the scene by Miller's Tow.
