You never know what you'll find while shopping...

Around noon today a patron at the Dollar General store in Adrian glanced down to see the baggie shown here, on the sidewalk. The substance inside was tested and positively identified as methamphetamine.

Unfortunately, the bag was found by an 8 year old child who was shopping with her mother.

While the investigation continues, the owner of this baggie is more than welcomed to come by the police station and claim it.

Baby faces long recovery after being shaken and thrown to the ground

photo- Prayers for Phoenix
Baby girl Phoenix is facing more surgery after being violently shaken and thrown to the ground in Linn County, Ks. Her biological father, Danny Sumter is behind bars facing charges- as he allegedly snapped because she wouldn't stop crying after he picked her up from the baby sitter.

Authorities say the incident happened on July 22, and the baby's mother says she was only with Sumter a short time before he shook her and threw her to the ground, causing the child to have serious convulsions and internal damage.

While the child is recovering, doctors indicate she will require surgeries through her young life to repair damage caused in the incident.

Initially, Sumter blamed a family pet and Phoenix's sibling for the crime. He is currently in the Linn County jail on $250,000 bond.

Donations to help offset medical expenses can be made at Labette bank in Pleasanton Ks in care of Misti Feris

Kitten with rabies found in Cass county

According to information obtained from the Cass County Mo. Health Department, a kitten was found in Peculiar, Mo a few weeks ago that tested positive for rabies. Officials are urging anyone in the area who might have had contact with a calico kitten in the area of 227th Street and Knight Terrace in Peculiar, to see your doctor immediately.

Rabies has become somewhat uncommon, especially in domestic animals- but in any case creates much concern for humans. The virus is typically transmitted during a bite and during the onset cause fever, chills and muscle pain. If untreated, the individual will become very ill and die from its affect on internal organs.

Some tips offered to help prevent rabies:

• Ensure dogs, cats, and ferrets are up-to-date on rabies vaccinations. The effectiveness of animal vaccines is the main reason for the nationwide decline in rabies cases among people and domestic animals.
• Keep pets under control; do not allow them to run loose.
• Avoid contact with stray pets and wild animals; do not keep wild animals as pets.
• Report wild animals exhibiting unusual behavior or stray pets to law enforcement officials.
• Personal pets should not be handled without protection directly after being exposed to wildlife due to the potential for carrying residual saliva from the infected animal.

If you have questions or concerns, call the Cass County Health Department at 816-380-8425 or visit http://www.cdc.gov/rabies/
