Updated Obituary - Dorothy Lee Hodges

Dorothy Lee Hodges, 79 of Drexel, Missouri passed away October 5, 2016 at her home in Drexel. Cremation, with memorial services to be held 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (660-679-0009). 

No visitation. Burial will follow in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Missouri. Memorial contributions are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Drexel First Baptist Church, The Red Cross, or the Disabled American Veterans. Dorothy Lee was born March 29, 1937 in Drexel, Missouri to Russell and Mary Elizabeth (Jacobs) Bratcher. She was a 1955 Drexel High School graduate as well as a basketball player. She had a great hook shot. Dorothy married Brad Hodges, the love of her life, on Valentine’s Day in 1976. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and was very proud of her family. Dorothy also loved the Lord and was a long-standing member of the Drexel First Baptist Church. Her generosity and kind heart touched the lives of all she knew and met. Dorothy worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital in the Tuberculosis Unit and was one of the best waitresses around. She lived her life putting the needs of others above her own. Dorothy was passionate about her country and the Drexel Community. She gave to many charities, especially to Wounded Warriors, which she held close to her heart. Dorothy will always be remembered for her smile, kind words, and her generous spirit which guided her everyday.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Brad Hodges, father Russell Bratcher, mother Elizabeth Van Meter, half brother Billy Bob Van Meter, step-father Russell Van Meter, and by her grandmother Amanda Jacobs. She is survived by her three children, Marcella Johnston of Drexel, MO, Bill Johnston and wife Carolyn of Clinton, MO, and Debbie Lancaster and husband Brad of Louisburg, KS, grandchildren, Skyler and Taylor Lancaster, Javyn and Braylen Johnston, Linzy Freeman, Livia and Tucker Dunham.

Just in time...PUMPKINS!

Mrs. Smith's 3rd grade class at Butler elementary got a special delivery today- 15 large pumpkins, fresh from Gaylord Farms. Richard Gaylord, at left, dropped off the jack-o-lanterns-to-be for their annual October project, which the kids were eager to begin working on.

Police search for truck stolen in Passaic area

On September 29, 2016 a Deputy took a report of a stolen vehicle in the Passaic area.

The vehicle was parked in Passaic on Thursday evening. The victim noticed it missing the next day.

The stolen vehicle is a 1999 Dodge 1500 pickup that is blue in color.

If you have any information on this stolen truck, please contact a Detective at 660-679-3232.

Garage fire just outside of Butler

Butler and Adrian fire departments have been summoned to a residence near 347 NW CR 1001 on a report of a detached garage on fire.

More information will be posted as it becomes available, use caution and watch for emergency vehicles if traveling through the area.

Decision 2016: the Bates County Coroner race

Special guest at Drexel school today

Missouri State Representative Jack Bondon visited Mr. Latham's government classes at Drexel High School today to discuss with students the Missouri Civics Initiative recently passed. He also listened to two referendums each class is proposing the General Assembly take up. The referendums included the students desire that any member of the General Assembly pass a citizenship test, meet certain age and voting requirements and thoroughly understand our state's traditions and laws.

Mr. Bondon is spending most of the morning at the school, attending classes 2nd and 4th hours to discuss the referendums and other ideas at length. 

Obituary - Velma Stickley

Velma Stickley, 78, of Clinton, Missouri died Wednesday night, October 5, 2016 at her home. 

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time and are under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.
