Archie woman seriously injured in Cass County Crash

On 10/31/16 around 3:27pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri 192 at P Highway in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1999 Honda Civic driven by 37 year old Hydie M. Middaugh of Archie, Missouri failed to yield for the 1996 Peterbilt Semi Truck driven by 52 year old Tyler L. Reynolds of Garnett, Kansas who swerved to miss striking the car but was unsuccessful and struck the vehicle.

Hydie M. Middaugh sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported by Life Flight Eagle to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Honda Civic was totaled and towed from the scene by G/T Tow.

Obituary - Betty L. Beeman

Betty L. Beeman
Betty L. Beeman, 88, Nevada, MO passed from this life on October 28, 2016 at Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center in Nevada. Betty was born July 23, 1928 in Vernon County, Missouri to George B. and Ada Belle (Dory) Craig. She was united in marriage to Norman Beeman on June 14, 1947 in Girard, KS.

Betty attended school in Walker and graduated from Walker High School Class of 1947. Following high school Betty worked at Nelly Don in Nevada for 14 years. She loved to sew and enjoyed making quilts. Betty was very active at First Baptist Church helping with various ministries. She helped prepare and serve many funeral dinners. She was also part of a group of ladies that made quilts for new babies born to members of the church. Betty and Norman loved to travel and especially loved spending the winters in Florida fishing. They took a group of kids to Guatemala on a missionary trip and spent several years doing missionary work in various parts of the United States. Betty loved spending time with family.

In addition to her husband Norman she is survived by her children, Craig Beeman, St. Joseph, MO, Claudia Martindale and her husband Rick, Spring Branch, TX, Mike Beeman and his wife Susan, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Josh, Annie, Cassie, Amy, John, Jeremy, and Joseph; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bill Craig and his wife Mary Ellen, Stover, MO, Dick Craig and his wife Toots, Jolliet, IL, Larry Craig and his wife Frances, Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George Craig, Dory Craig, Roger Craig; one sister, Irene Coones; and one daughter-in-law, Jan Beeman.



Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Hubert Fox officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service in Monday.

Obituary - Virginia N. Dark

Virginia N. Dark
Virginia N. Dark, 95, formerly of Nevada, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at Truman Gardens in Independence, MO. Virginia was born March 29, 1921 in Joplin, MO to Arthur and Rhoda (Peterson) Gatewood. On December 14, 1940 she was united in marriage to Joe H. Dark and he preceded her in death in 1996.

Virginia grew up near Montevallo, MO. She lived most of her life in Nevada working as a psychiatric aid at Nevada State Hospital for nearly 20 years. Virginia enjoyed shopping, and loved being with her family – especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include two children, William R. Dark, Kansas City, MO, and Lillie Mae Plain, Virgil City, MO; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim Gatewood; one sister, June Cassidy; several nieces, and nephews. In addition to her husband Joe, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Private family interment will follow in Montevallo Cemetery in Montevallo, MO.

Obituary - Charles Vernon Swink

Charles Vernon Swink 
Charles Vernon Swink, 68, Stotesbury, MO passed from this life on October 29, 2016 at his home in Stotesbury following a lengthy illness. Charles was born October 20, 1948 in Nevada, MO to Charles Herman and Claudia Maxine (Finney) Swink. He was united in marriage to Cheryl Ann Rayburn on June 18, 1980 in Miami, OK and she preceded him in death on December 26, 2014.

Charles was raised in the Richards and Stotesbury area. He attended school in Richards and graduated from Richards High School in 1966. Following high school Charles served in the United States Army for 22 years achieving the rank of Sgt. First Class. During his time in the service he did two tours of duty in Vietnam and also was stationed in Germany, Australia, and Central America. Upon his return to Vernon County he worked at the Nevada State Hospital, Key Work Clothes in Nevada, and the City of Nevada until his retirement in 2002. Charles was a member of the Nevada Eagles Lodge #3770, and the American Legion Post #2.

Survivors include his children, Lynna Overman, Moundville, MO, Jackie Vinzant, Richards, MO, Charles K. Swink, Nevada, MO, Rebecca Pruett and her husband Benjamin, Blue Springs, MO, Connie Swink, Stotesbury, Vernon Swink, Stotesbury; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Bogan, Hume, two brothers, Earl Swink, Stotesbury, and J.D. Swink, Hume, MO; numerous nieces, and nephews. In addition to his wife, Cheryl, he was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Keaton Charles Swink.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Roger Beach. Interment will follow in East Liberty Cemetery, Stotesbury, MO. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.



Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to Children’s Mercy Hospital in c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Chili Cook Off set for Nov. 11th

Max Motors will be hosting a Veterans Day Chili Cook Off. Starting at 10:45 on Nov. 11th come out and sample great chili. Drexel schools seeking bids for snow removal

The Drexel R-IV School District is accepting bids for snow removal for the 2016-2017 school year. Snow removal bids should include the price of snow removal for all parking lots on school premises. Bids are due in the Superintendent’s Office by 4:00 PM on Friday, November 18th, 2016. Bids should be in sealed envelopes with the words “Snow Removal Bid” on the outside of the envelope. The bids will be opened during the regular meeting of the Board to be held on Monday, November 21st, 2016 in the Board Conference Room, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Board reserves the right to reject any and all bids.
