Bountiful December harvest at Miami school

From Mr Allen, Miami FFA/Ag Studies Teacher

Since the early 1900's the Federal government has been encouraging school gardening. Program operators found that even small gardens could help children gain familiarity and comfort with the fruits and vegetables they are seeing more of at mealtime. The Miami junior high Ag exploratory class has started their own greenhouse garden. This class has started this whole process from the seeds to harvest. The program helps provide the students with the opportunity to produce a product that is consumable and beneficial. The class has had the help from the cafeteria staff to give this food out at lunch so the kids can see what it takes to feed themselves and others in the community.
Editor's note- Job well done! It's encouraging to see kids learn the basics about growing food. Hat's off to the Miami Ag program.
