Donald Stevens
Donald Stevens, age 52, Paola, Kansas formerly of La Cygne, Kansas passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016. 

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 am Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the La Cygne Christian Church. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to service time at the church. 

The family suggests contributions to the American Stroke Foundation or American Diabetes Foundation c/o Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, P.O. Box 304, La Cygne, KS 66040.

Vehicle fire in Butler

Shortly before 5pm this evening the Butler Fire Department along with the Butler Police Department responded to a vehicle fire in the parking lot of 113 South Orange Street (Former Nelson's Motel).

A silver four door passenger car was fully engulfed in smoke and fire but was quickly put out before the fire spread.

Butler Fire Crews are still on scene at this time and we will update when more information is made available to us.

Ella "Jeannie" Fahnestock, 79, formerly of Harrisonville, Missouri died Sunday, December 25, 2016 at the South Central Kansas Medical Center, Arkansas City, Kansas.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the funeral home.

Debra Lynn Schlesener, 60, Clinton, Missouri died Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Friday, 

December 30, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. A complete obituary will be added when it becomes available.

Obituary - Robert Lee Howell

Robert Lee Howell
Robert Lee Howell, age 60, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas. He was born March 26, 1956, in Salinas, California, the son of Bill and Jean Howell. He married Shirley Ann McReynolds on May 1, 1987, at their home in Ft. Scott. 

Bob served with the Kansas Army National Guard in Ft. Scott for thirteen years as a 12 bravo and a M60 gunner. He also worked for many years for Peerless Products. 

Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley, of the home; two daughters, Bridget Hartman, of Ft. Scott and Sebrena Pattison, of Hume, Missouri; and a son, Jeremiah Reasoner, of Ft. Scott as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Thomas Howell, of Salinas, California and Joseph Howell, of Montana and two sisters, Dolly Selsnie, of Salinas, California and Rosemary of Sacramento, California. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters and his parents, Bill Howell and Jean Howell Molinari.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 28th at the Bethel Community Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Bethel Community Church. Memorials are suggested to the Robert Howell Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

Updated Obituary - Richard Dean “Rick” Loe

Richard Dean “Rick” Loe
Richard Dean “Rick” Loe of Drexel, Missouri passed away December 18, 2016 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Monday, December 26, 2016 in the First Baptist Church Mission Hall in Drexel. There will be no visitation. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Fairview North Dakota. Contributions are suggested to the Drexel VFW Post. Rick Loe was born September 25, 1945 in Williston, North Dakota to Roy “Bud” and Evelyn Danielson Loe. He grew up in the Fairview, Montana and Kirksville, Missouri areas and graduated from Ethel high school. Shortly after graduation, Rick enlisted in the US Army and began his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Following his training he was deployed to Germany. With the strong desire to serve his country, and make a career in the US Army, upon his return from Germany, Rick re-enlisted and was sent to Viet Nam. He enjoyed the Army life, but after receiving a severe injury in combat, his career came to an abrupt end. He was Honorably Discharged on February 24, 1967 and sent to Fitz Simmons Hospital in Colorado to recover. He later joined his brother Roy Loe and made Drexel, Missouri his home. Rick enjoyed spending time at the VFW, especially playing bingo. He enjoyed his John Wayne westerns and making children smile with gifts of candy or quarters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marie Johnson and Marjorie McDoughal. Rick is survived by his brother Roy Loe and wife Linda of Drexel, MO., nephew Roy “Rusty” Loe and family of Drexel, niece Shellie Wisdom and family of Amoret, MO., a half-sister, Crystal Martell and family of Sidney, Montana, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
