Here Comes the Cold

Cold air is headed our way. Today will be the last day of the week we'll see temperatures in the 30s.

Snow is looking more likely for Thursday morning which could slow down your morning commute. 

Accumulations look to be right around an inch, especially for areas near and south of US 36.

Lillie Morris retires from the Bates County Memorial Hospital

After 25 years of service to Bates County Memorial Hospital, Lillie Morris was honored with a gift from the hospital in recognition of her retirement in December, 2016. 

Lillie began her employment in November, 1991 in the laundry department. 

Lillie always demonstrated a commitment to her job and loyalty to the hospital. 

She always had a smile and happy greeting for everyone. Lillie’s presence will be greatly missed by staff. 

We wish Lillie much happiness as she enjoys retirement.

For the record books

One of the largest hit stories for us this year was Ben Cameron of rural Amoret, Missouri shooting a 29 point Monster Buck on October 21st, 2016. The story alone reached 47,042 hits to this day on Mid America Live News. Ben posted this today on the official stats on his great kill. - Great Job Ben!

Obituary - Ruth Ann Ballard

Ruth Ann Ballard
Ruth Ann Ballard, 76, of Pleasant Hill, was born, March 3, 1940, in St. Louis, the son of Marshall Alva and Lola Irene (McDaniel) Campbell. She departed this life, peacefully, Friday, December 30, 2016, at her home.

Ruth was a 1958 Pleasant Hill High School graduate.

Ruth had been employed as a fork lift operator for Bendix/Honeywell, retiring in 2007. Prior to that she had been employed by Western Electric and had also been a school bus driver in Pleasant Hill. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist church. She was a Life Member of the Ivy Leaf Chapter #215, Order of the Eastern Star and the IAM Union Local # 778. She enjoyed gardening, tending to flowers, working on the family farm, and spending time with her grandkids. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by two daughters Marsha (and Stan) Krummel of Spring Hill, Kansas, and Nancy (and Aaron) Miller of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren, Rachel Krummel of Tacoma, Washington, Valerie (and Michael) McCord of Olathe, Kansas, Evan Miller and Brett Miller, both of Pleasant Hill; one sister, Irene Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; two cousins, Stephanie (and Sean) Clark of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Greg (and Dee) Smith of Des Moines; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2016, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Reverend Carl Knapp will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers are Kunio Dudgeon, Mike Griffith, Stan Krummel, Michael McCord, Aaron Miller, Brett Miller, and Evan Miller.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Cass County 4-H Horsemanship and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

A Dense Fog Advisory (gray area) has been issued for most of Missouri and northeast Kansas until 3 AM. 

These are dangerous visibilities. 

Take caution if driving and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Harrisonville teen injured in Cass County Crash

On 1/2/17 around 5:43pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on South Cleveland Ave. just North of Route Y in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2002 Ford driven by 19 year old Amber K. Dalton of Harrisonville, Missouri traveled off the roadway, driver over corrected causing the vehicle to travel off the opposite side of the roadway striking a embankment and overturning. 

Amber K. Dalton sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by J's Southland Tow.

Lewis A, Cossins, 74, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by love and family.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Faith Baptist Church, 23705 E. State Route 2, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2017 at the church.
