Another push to ban all texting while driving in Missouri
Ever wonder why the radio controls in your car are easier to access than your heater controls?A long time ago, automobile manufacturers figured out that people fiddle with the radio more than anything else- so making it more accessible would hopefully keep people from running into something while changing stations.
Since then we've come a long way. Texting is the new reason people run into things and unfortunately, there isn't much auto manufacturers can do about that, so it's up to lawmakers.
Again, the push is on to completely ban texting while driving in Missouri, which currently bars only those age 21 and younger from doing it.
Last year, there was a whopping number of folks in the Show Me State that were killed because someone was texting. And the numbers show they were certainly not all under the age of 21. In fact, the bulk of texting-while-driving offenders were over the age of 21, indicating that Missouri should consider joining the 45 other states that ban everyone from texting while behind the wheel.
The American Automobile Association is currently lobbying lawmakers to consider changing the law and anticipate some positive movement on the matter later this year.

Updated Obituary - Judy Kay Smith
![]() |
| Judy Kay Smith |
For the most part, Judy grew-up in Lee's Summit, MO, where she graduated from Lee's Summit High School. In the spring of 1973, she married Gail (also from Lee's Summit, MO), in Miami Oklahoma. After marriage, Judy and Gail moved into the small lake house Judy owned in Lake Latawana, MO, before they embarked on the building of their farm house (board by board & nail by nail...) over the course of approximately two years; out on a narrow 10 acre lot of land, west of Adrian, MO.
Judy was a lover of gardening, whether that entailed tending to her huge vegetable garden (where her children would often be called upon to help maintain it...) or her most beautiful flowers. She understood that it took time for things to grow, but it also took hard-work and sweat to yield a bountiful harvest. Her real passion in life was taking care of her family, which included two children: Robert (Karen) Johnson of Lenexa, KS & Heather (Aaron) Chabino of Parkville, MO , her grandchildren Meagan (Johnson) Lima of Overland Park, KS, Aubrey Johnson of Olathe, KS, & Conner Chabino of Parkville, MO, her great grand-daughter Kinley Longston of Olathe, KS, and last but not least - her beloved dog /companion (Coco)...
Though there were many meager times growing-up, it never seemed like it, because Judy made sure the family was always fed, clothed and basic needs taken care of. Sometimes an extra part-time job or two was required to help pay for some sort of extracurricular activity the children “thought” was necessary, or to make sure that come birthdays and/or Christmas time there would be presents to unwrap and fun to be had.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to Crystal Manor, Adrian, 409 West 1st Street, Adrian, MO 64720.
