Obituary - Clifford Lee Cartwright III

Clifford Lee Cartwright, III, 52 of Nevada, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 in Nevada. Clifford was born November 7, 1964 in Nevada, MO, the son of Clifford Jr. and Glenna (Whitaker) Cartwright. 

He graduated from Nevada High School in 1981 and has been employed by Alliance Water Systems in Nevada. He enjoyed the outdoors life where he fished, camped and hunted. He was a K.C. Chiefs and NASCAR fan. Clifford will be remembered by his family as “Mr. Fix-It” as he enjoyed fixing things for family and friends.

Clifford is survived by a son, Cameron Cartwright and wife, Lakyn Nevada; daughter, Amanda Cartwright, Nevada; grandchildren, Qwinley Cartwright, Stratton Mansfield, MiKayla Cartwright, and Trusten Derry; mother, Glenna Cartwright, Nevada; father, Clifford Jr. and wife Cindy, Nevada; sister, Angela Haun and husband, Terry, Sidney, NE; brothers, Kevin Cartwright and Shawn Cartwright, both of Nevada; also survived by Cameron and Amanda’s half-sister, Alyssa Cole of Springfield.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Terry Mosher officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Denise M. King 39 of Independence, Missouri ( Formerly of Cass County) departed this life on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at her home in Independence.

Final arrangements entrusted to Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Service time and a complete obituary will be posted when that information becomes available.

Two horses killed after being struck on I-49

On 1/9/17 around 2:30am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a report of two horses struck by a semi truck on I-49 North of Peculiar in Cass County.

One of the horses was killed immediately and the other one had to be euthanized.

The semi truck driver wasn't injured in this accident and police are searching for the owner of the horses.

Eric Greitens sworn into office as Missouri's next governor

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) Republican Eric Greitens has been sworn in as Missouri's 56th governor.
Greitens took the oath of office Monday outside the Capitol building in Jefferson City. 
The first Jewish governor of the state placed one hand on a Bible owned by a World War I veteran as he recited the oath. He was flanked by his wife and two children, accompanied by their grandparents.
Greitens replaces term-limited Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.
His inauguration marks the first time that Missouri Republicans have supermajorities in the state House and Senate and control of the governor's mansion.
Republicans Lt. Gov. Mike Parson, Treasurer Eric Schmitt, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft and Attorney General Josh Hawley also were sworn into office.
More than 6,000 people packed the Capitol lawn for the event on a chilly overcast day.

Shooting in Cleveland Missouri

On 01/07/2017 the Cass County Sheriffs Office was dispatched to 209 East Walnut Cleveland, Missouri on a report of a shooting. 

Kimberly Jump reported that her husband shot himself. The male Subject was transported to a local Hospital for further treatment. 

He did survive and is expected to recover from his injuries.

Obituary - Sharon (Brick) Messick

Sharon Kay Messick
Sharon Kay Messick, 71, Springfield, MO, formerly of Nevada, passed away on January 8, 2017 at Republic Nursing and Rehab in Republic, MO following an illness of several months. She was born September 16, 1945 in Clinton, MO to Clifford F. and Margaret Irene (Fitzmorris) Brick. On April 24, 1980 she was united in marriage to Marion K. Messick in Butler, MO and he survives of the home.

Sharon was raised in Nevada and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Nevada thru the 8th grade. She moved to Boonville with her family and graduated from St. Peter and Paul Catholic High School. Following high school Sharon attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg for two years. Sharon worked at the Nevada Medical Clinic for a number of years. In 1997 she moved to the Springfield area where she continued to work at Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center until her retirement due to a disability. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada and later St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church in Springfield.

In addition to her husband Marion survivors include one brother, Gary Brick and his wife Sharon, Springfield; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her twin sister Karen Hanlin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Father Matthew Benjamin officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
