Impending doom? Ice storm this weekend...

If you've been anywhere near a TV, radio, or on social media this week, you've heard we are supposed to get freezing precipitation this weekend.

While the last couple of days have been windy and 'March like', temps will begin to plummet over the next few days as cold dry air from the north meets warm moist air from the Gulf directly over us.

Some computer models say we may see an inch or more of ice which would certainly hamper travel and cause havoc on trees and power lines. Some models show more, others less.

Needless to say, even a half inch of ice will shut things down and make travel very dangerous.

Forecasters say the prediction of the amount of ice could vary greatly in our area based on exactly where cold and warm air meet. Other factors such as humidity play a big role as well.

It's still early in the week- we may not see a truly accurate forecast until Thursday or so..... Mid America Live will keep you updated with the latest weather, road conditions and closures. For now, the latest forecast says freezing precip is a certainty; how much remains to be seen.
