Obituary - Demetrius Anthony Hayden

Demetrius Anthony Hayden
Demetrius Anthony Hayden, age 25, of Clinton, died in rural Warrensburg, MO, on Sunday, January 29, 2017.

Demetrius was born Tuesday, September 10, 1991 to Michael Edward and Klysta LaNell ‘Schriever’ Hayden in California. He graduated from high school and attended Kansas City Community College for two years. 


Demetrius died as the result of a vehicle/pedestrian accident on US 50, around three-tenths of a mile west of PCA Road.

Survivors include his father, Michael Edward Hayden, II; his step-father, Scott Breashers; his brother, Michael Edward Hayden, III and girlfriend, Misty Yoss; his nephew, Elias Anthony Hayden; his grandparents, Robert and Lenora Carver, Diane Vaughn and Michael Edward Hayden, Sr.; his girlfriend, Camry Buckingham; several cousins, other family and friends.

Preceding him in death was his mother, Klysta LaNell Breashers.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Consalus Funeral Home, Clinton.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Demetrius Hayden Memorial Fund and may be left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd St., Clinton, MO 64735.


Storm Siren Test Tomorrow In Butler

The City of Butler will conduct a test of the Outdoor Warning Sirens through out the city tomorrow Wednesday February 1st starting at 10am.

Obituary - Patrick “Pat” Donald Bowden

Patrick “Pat” Donald Bowden peacefully passed away January 30, 2017 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am Monday, February 6, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Butler, Missouri with Father Thomas Hermes officiating. 

The Rosary will be recited at 9:00 am and visitation will follow until Mass begins at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Serenity Hospice or VFW Post 1935. Pat was born August 23, 1933 in Hannibal, Missouri to Raymond and Elma Rader Bowden, where he was one of 10 children. In Kirksville, Missouri on May 28, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jane Thomas.

Pat entered the Marine Corp in 1953 where he received a USAFI Certificate and served overseas in the Korean War. He graduated from Northeast Missouri State University with a B.S. in Education. He taught in several school districts in Northeast Missouri (New Cambria, Knox County, Lewis County and Macon). Pat drove many school busses as well as an 18-wheeler truck for a portion of his life. Before retiring, he worked for Tan-Tara Resort at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Survivors include his wife, Jane, one daughter, Jacqueline K. (Jackie) Coop and her husband, Jeff, of Peculiar, Missouri and one son, David Patrick Bowden and his wife, Raelene of Spring Hill, Kansas; four grandchildren: Ryan Coop, Lemoore, California, Austin Coop, Kansas City, Missouri, Haley Bowden and Libby Bowden both of Spring Hill, Kansas; and one step grandchild, Ramzy Harb and his wife, Susie, of Shawnee, Kansas. One sister, Marilyn Doty, of Hannibal, three great step grandchildren & many nieces and nephews survive.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph, Anthony, William and Michael Bowden; and sisters, Madeline Monical, Margaret McGee, Alma Mae Jacobs and Barbara Hodgson.

Pat was a private pilot for many years and enjoyed hours of flying his own single engine plane. Also he helped to organize two flying clubs in Northeast Missouri and served as president of the Missouri Flying Farmers. Pat was a strong supporter of all athletics in the schools that he taught and was honored by the Macon Tiger Football Team in 1988. Among other things, Pat enjoyed country music, camping, hunting, and fishing. Probably one of his happiest moments in life was a tug on his fishing line, tramping through the woods hunting game, or when Mizzou won a game, as he was an avid Mizzou fan.

In October 2015, Pat was among the first Veterans to participate in the Flightless Honor Flight sponsored by the Honor Flight Network of Kansas City. On this day this special group of Veterans were honored for their service to our country.

He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church of Butler and was a member at the VFW Post 1935 of Adrian. He and his wife owned & operated Vision Housing Rentals in Garden City for 12 years.

We celebrate his life, his many accomplishments and will cherish the loving memories that he created for his family and friends.

U.S. Veteran Bennie Edward Alburtis 80 of Lee's Summit, Missouri departed this life on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Villages of Jackson Creek, Independence, Missouri surrounded by love and family.

Ben was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Opal Alburtis Young, Oscar Alburtis, step father Hershel Young and daughter Laura Chennault.

As were his parents, Ben was born and raised in Harrisonville, MO and was a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO. He played college football and basketball at his beloved MU for 4 years. After graduation he married lifelong resident also of Harrisonville, Linda Killingsworth. With a degree in Sales & Marketing, he worked his entire career as National Sales Manager for various food companies before retiring to Palm Springs, CA in 1995, later to Hot Springs, AR and finally moving back to the Kansas City area in 2011.

Ben is survived by his son Bill E. Chennault of Lee's Summit, Missouri; a daughter, Leighann Pratt of Lee's Summit, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jessica, Taylor, and Tara; two great grandchildren, Trey and Brooks; other relatives and many, many friends. 


The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in honor of his late mother Opal, and daughter Laura. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with inurnment in the Orient Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joplin S.W.A.T. activated; Two men in custody, One on Vernon County Warrant

JOPLIN, MISSOURI - At 5:19 p.m. on Monday January 30th, an officer was driving through the area of 7th and Moffet when they saw a male they knew as Everett G. Britt (29) of Joplin. Knowing that Britt had an active warrant for his arrest, officers went to contact Britt and he fled on foot. During the foot chase Britt was armed with a firearm. Britt attempted to elude officers by running into an apartment at 626 South Moffett.

Joplin S.W.A.T. was activated and responded to the location. Negotiators began communications with Britt and he eventually exited the apartment and was taken into custody. Also located in the apartment and taken into custody was John D. Tipton (33) of Joplin.

Mr. Britt’s warrant was for Failure to Appear on Felony Child Neglect out of Vernon County. He has also been placed on a hold for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Mr. Tipton’s warrants were for Failing to Appear on a Felony Receiving Stolen Property out of Jasper County and city warrant out of Webb City. Both men are currently in custody at the Joplin City Jail.

Man wrecks motorcycle after high speed chase in St. Clair County

St. Clair County Sheriff Scott Keeler reports that on Jan. 30, a St. Clair County Deputy Sheriff took Justin Stewart, 28, Bolivar, into custody on several charges after he failed to yield to law enforcement while operating a 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 636 motorcycle.

During the evening hours deputies received information the motorcycle failed to yield to law enforcement in Polk County and evaded them. A deputy staged at Pilot Travel Center, Collins, located a motorcycle matching the description traveling north on Highway 13 south of SE 1000 Road.

The operator of motorcycle turned east on SE 1000 Road and crossed the double yellow lines. Emergency lights and sirens were activated in and the motorcycle refused to yield and sped up reaching speeds of approximately 130 miles-per-hour. The motorcycle attempted to turn east on Coon Creek Street and wrecked.

A deputy accompanied Stewart and a female, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, in an ambulance to Citizens Memorial Hospital, Bolivar. During the transport Stewart was found to in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. The paraphernalia consisted of syringes, a pipe, and a spoon which field tested positive for methamphetamine's. 


Mr. Stewart was checked at the hospital and later released and transported to the St. Clair County Jail pending formal charges. The female was arrested at the hospital by another agency on no bond probation violation warrants
