Bates County Coroner Activity Report 1/13-1/31-2017

8 Nursing Home/Hospice type deaths were reported to the Coroner as required by law. None were investigated.
  • On 1/18/2017 the Coroner was called to South Houston Street in Adrian. Randy E. Green, 54 was pronounced by Coroner Greg D. Mullinax at 10:22 AM and investigation determined the death to be due to natural causes.
  • On 1/24/2017 the Coroner was called to a field in southwestern Bates County near Foster, Missouri. Martin L. Slawson, 57 was pronounced by Coroner Greg D. Mullinax at 7:40 PM. Although foul play was not involved and the investigation is closed, further details shall not be released at the discretion of the Coroner.

Obituary - Susie F. (Lightfoot) Clark

Susie F. (Lightfoot) Clark, 95, of Milo, Missouri passed from this life on January 31, 2017 at Nevada Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, William (Bill) Clark, and sons-in-law J.C. Walk and Kelsey Mead. She is survived by her children, Betty Esther Walk, Adrian, MO; George C. Clark (Renate), Blue Springs, MO; Billie Sue Mead, Seymour, MO; Lloyd W. Clark (Chris), Nevada, MO; Robert E. Clark (Kathy), Fort Scott, KS; Lisa Clark Shaw (David), Milo, MO; and an abundance of grand-and great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Milo Cemetery, Milo, MO.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Honor Flight in c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Adrian to test storm sirens this evening

Baby Remington Craft Makes Her Debut

Remington Jade Craft was born this morning at 9:40 am. She decided to come with threatening complications soon after her water broke.

Mother Kaleigh Craft was immediately taken into surgery for an emergency C-Section. Baby came out quick, dad Brandon was put into a sterile outfit to help.


Remington is the Grand daughter of Steve and Michelle Craft of Butler, Mo and the daughter of Brandon Craft who is a 2003 Graduate of Butler High School.

Remington has been prenatally diagnosed with HLHS, which is a rare, incurable, & a lifelong heart defect.

Driver flees on foot, Two teen passengers injured in early morning Bates County rollover accident

On 2/1/17 around 6:00am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriffs Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident in the Southbound Lane of I-49 around Mile Marker 134.6 in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1999 Toyota Camry failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the right side of the roadway and down a embankment overturning.

The driver of the vehicle who is unknown at this time fled on foot after this accident. Two passengers in the vehicle 19 year old Chase R. Franklin of Independence, Missouri and 19 year old Ricky M. Stauffer also of Independence, Missouri both sustained minor injuries in this accident and both were transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Don's Tow of Butler, Missouri.

Frank Chambers, 65, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at his home surrounded by love and family.

Cremation. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
