Stolen truck found nearby

On February 15th Deputies responded to State Route B in Rockville to take a report of a vehicle theft. When the victim let her dogs outside that morning she noticed that her truck was not in her driveway where she had parked it the night before. They had OnStar in the vehicle. OnStar was able to look at the vehicle’s GPS and they advised Dispatch that the vehicle was located just a few miles northwest of the residence. 

Deputies responded to the location of the vehicle. The back glass was broken out of the truck. A Detective arrived on the scene to process the vehicle. The items collected from the truck will be sent to the lab for analysis.




Valentine's Day burglary under investigation

On February 14th a Deputy responded to County Road 4501 in Adrian, MO to take a burglary report. The victim stated that her residence had been broken into. Her furnace had been damaged and pipes and wires had been cup at removed. The victim also had miscellaneous tools, an air mattress and copper tubing stolen.

Then, on February 17th Deputies responded to County Road 5508 to take a burglary report. The victim stated someone had broken into his shed and hand stolen a saddle, bridles, halters, girths and a horseshoeing kit. His granddaughters show box had also been stolen. The items on the show box had the name “Catie” on them. The value of the items stolen was approximately $2725.00.

Clinton man arrested on warrants

On 2/20/17 around 5:00pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County arrested 46 year old Frankie L. Wood of Clinton, Missouri.

Mr. Wood was arrested for 1.) Felony Henry County Sheriffs Office Warrant - 2nd Degree Burglary 2.) Misdemeanor Clinton Police Department Warrant - Driving While Revoked 3.) Failure to register a motor vehicle 4.) Driving while revoked.

He was booked into the Henry County Jail and he is currently listed as bondable.

Three injured in Vernon County rollover accident

On 2/19/17 around 3:00pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route C 2.5 miles West of Schell City, Missouri in rural Vernon County.

The Missouri State Highway says the accident occurred when the 1994 GEO Prizm driven by 33 year old Leslie A. Gayman of Schell City, Missouri ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Leslie A Gayman as well as two passengers in her vehicle 6 year old Heidi L.Gayman and 4 year old Natalie G. Gayman all sustained minor injuries and all three occupants were transported to the Nevada Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by a Private Tow.

Funeral services for Trista Vail will be Friday February 24, 2017 at 2pm with visitation prior to services at 1 pm at The Mullinax Funeral Home located at 10 S. High Street in Butler, Mo.

Activity Report for the Period February 1-15, 2017:


• One case was referred to the Bates County Coroner from the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s office. After discussion and further investigation, jurisdiction was transferred to Jackson County for this case.

• 3 Nursing Home/Hospice type deaths were reported to the Coroner as required by law. None were investigated.

• In the early morning hours of 2/7/2017 the Coroner was called to a residence north of Adrian, Missouri. Sandra Brown was pronounced by Coroner Greg D. Mullinax at 5:53 AM with investigation revealing natural causes.

• On the morning of 2/15/17 the Coroner was called to Bates County Memorial Hospital Emergency Department where Ken Kmak was pronounced previously by medical personnel. Investigation revealed death was due to natural causes.







Obituary -Claudine Burns

Claudine Burns
Claudine Burns, 66, of Nevada, MO, passed from this life on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was born on March 24, 1950 in Lamar, MO to Claude William Miller and Dorothy Alice (Welch) Miller. She married Jack R. Burns on June 4, 1968 in Sheldon, MO and he survives of the home.

Claudine was raised on a farm near Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1968. She worked for Professional Home Improvement in Nevada for many years until 2009. 


Claudine loved to sew and make clothes for her family, helping her granddaughter with sewing projects in 4-H. She loved fishing and most of all being with her family.

Survivors include her husband Jack; daughter Jacquelin Haner and her husband Tim, Nevada, and their daughters, Kimberly Schieffer and her husband Kyle and Makayla Haner; son Danny Lee Burns, Nevada, and his son Jacob; sister Mary Lou Periman, Nevada; and niece Louann Williams, Joplin, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William Gene Miller.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Vernon County Cancer Relief in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
