Food Pantry open tomorrow

 Our monthly Mass Food Distribution is tomorrow morning from 8:30 to 11:30 am. Our food supplier, Harvesters, will come down with a big load of fruits and vegetables to share with with Bates County residents.  No appointment is needed. Just come, get in line with your identification and proof of residence in Bates County.

We will stock you up on whatever Harvesters sends down this month.

Celebration of Life set for Judy Howe March 2nd

Judy was a beautiful person whom especially enjoyed spending time at the Amsterdam Cafe' visiting with friends. As there will be no formal service, we will be having an "in honor of" coffee session at the Cafe' in Amsterdam from 8 am-10 am on Thursday, March 2nd. We would be honored for you to join us we celebrate her life.

Your opinion needed: Drexel ponders 4 day school week

Across Missouri, a fair number of schools have went to a four day school week- locally, Miami R-1 has been on the four day week for some time with what appear to be reasonably good results.

Now, the Drexel R-IV School District has been looking at different ways to increase professional development time for teachers and one such avenue is to consider a 4 day school week as well. Click the following link to get more information and take a short survey:

Obituary - Wila Maxine Lethcho

Wila Maxine Lethcho, 91, Adrian, MO, died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Adrian Manor. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 25 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice or Adrian Manor Nursing Home, c/o Atkinson Funeral Home, 142 E. Main, P.O. Box 325, Adrian, MO 64720.

Maxine was born June 22, 1925 in Morgan County, MO the daughter of Thomas Franklin and Eva Pearl (Parkson) Hachler. Maxine was raised in the Steen Community with her sister and two brothers on the family farm with the big rock house. She attended Steen Grade School and graduated from Archie High School in 1943.

Maxine married Thomas Lee (Tom) Lethcho on August 11, 1947. To this union were born a son, Thomas Lee (Tommie Lee) and a daughter, Wila Denise. Maxine was a loving wife, mother and loved being a homemaker. She always had a ready smile and gentle laugh. Maxine was a member of the Central Christian Church in St. Joseph, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Tommie Lee, her daughter, Denise, and her husband, Tom Lethcho. She is survived by her sister, June Hess, Adrian, MO; two brothers, Thomas Edward (Bud) Hackler and wife, Maxine, Drexel, MO, and Joe R. Hackler and wife, Barbara, Archie, MO; brother-in-law, Bill Lethcho and wife, Sandy, Adrian; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

Sheriff’s office and local police assist student with school project


Yesterday, St. Clair County Detective Jarrod Sherrer, middle, and Osceola Police Chief Devin Shumaker, right, assisted Osceola High School Junior Kelsea Tyson, left, with her FCCLA STAR event on the consequences of driving while intoxicated. Tyson was shown a simulated traffic stop on a driving while intoxicated driver. During the stop, field sobriety tests were demonstrated. In one simulation Tyson acted as the impaired driver to better understand the process an impaired driver would go though during an investigation.
