Obituary - Mary Jane Bise

Mary Jane Bise
Mary Jane Bise, 89 of Butler, Missouri passed away February 26, 2017 at Bates County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009) with Pastor Terry Davis officiating. 

Visitation will be held prior to the service Wednesday from 11:00 to 1:00 pm also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. 

Contributions are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Butler Senior Center or the First Baptist Church Women’s Group. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Mary Jane Bise was born February 19, 1928 in Diggins, MO. to Arnold Edwin and Minnie Owings Semsch. She was united in marriage to Lee Roy Bise on August 24, 1947. She taught school for many years as a substitute teacher. Mary Jane was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Butler, and taught bible school for decades. She was a member of the the Collector’s Club, and was an avid collector. But over all, she had devoted herself to a life of service to others.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee Bise in 1995, three brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by her three sons, Eddie Bise of Belton, MO., Roger Bise and wife Cygnet of Fort Smith, AR., and Jeff Bise and wife Kelly of Derby, KS., ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a sister Eva Hall of Calhoun, MO., along with far too many friends to count.

Anonymous tip leads to arrest of William Swarnes

On February 25th the Detective received an anonymous tip about the whereabouts of a wanted subject by the name of William Swarnes. After observing the residence for a few hours, Swarnes exited the house. Swarnes fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, Swarnes was taken into custody. He was booked in to the Bates County Jail for DWI, Burglary and Resisting Arrest. His bonds were set at $5000.00 cash only.




Traffic stop in Amoret leads to arrest

On February 26, 2017 a Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Amoret for not displaying the correct license plates. The driver of the vehicle (Ernest Schmidt DOB 7/14/1972) had a suspended driver’s license. The passenger in the vehicle (John Taylor DOB 2/14/1974) had a homemade pipe on his person. The pipe field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Schmidt was issued citations for driving while suspended and for failure to register a motor vehicle.

Taylor was issued a citation for drug paraphernalia.





Vehicle assault leads to arrest

On February 26, 2017, Nevada Police Officers were summoned to the 800 Block of South Cedar Street in reference to a disturbance in progress.

Officers arrived in the area and determined through the investigation and use of witnesses that a male subject had used his vehicle to ram several vehicles in the area of that location.

Officers were advised that the suspect had left the scene, but remained in the area and was still operating the vehicle.

Officers located the male subject and took him into custody. The suspect was identified as Dusty A. Cox, age 19, of Nevada

Cox was charged through the Vernon County Circuit Court as follows:

Assault 2nd D Felony
Property Damage E Felony

Mr. Cox is being held on $25,000.00 cash only bond at the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.





Nevada police arrest man in connection with stolen Frito Lay truck

In the early morning hours of February 24, 2017 Nevada Police responded to the 1400 block of East Austin Blvd. in regards to a report of a Frito Lay box truck being stolen as it was being loaded.

Around 3:30 A.M. Nevada Police received a 911 call from a female employee of the Frito Lay Company stating her company vehicle had just been stolen by an unidentified male subject as the truck was being loaded for its daily deliveries.

As Nevada Police arrived on scene they observed debris in the roadway that was identified as merchandise that had fallen out of the truck as it sped away. It was reported the suspect vehicle had traveled east from the incident location. Officers searched for the vehicle but were unsuccessful in finding the vehicle. Later on in the morning GPS tracking was used to locate the vehicle in the 400 block of North Pine Street in Nevada.

During the course of the investigation Nevada Police were able to obtain video from a local convenience store where the alleged suspect had entered and tried to use a stolen credit device. Later in the evening Nevada Police had received reports of a suspicious person in the area of East Austin Blvd. Officers were able to make contact with the subject who was wanted out of Cass County, Missouri.

As officers conducted this separate investigation, it was discovered that the male subject in question was the suspect from the earlier vehicle theft that took place that morning. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident.

The stolen vehicle was processed by certified crime scene investigators and evidence was collected to be sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol laboratory for further analysis.

The suspect has been identified as Nathan Cunningham, age 41 of Harrisonville, MO.

The following charges have been filed through the Vernon County Associate Court as follows:

Tampering w/ a Motor Vehicle D Felony
Stealing D Felony

Bond has been set at $10,000 cash only.

Obituary - Debbie Lawrence

Memorial services for Debbie Lawrence will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2017 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. There is no visitation. Contributions to American Cancer Society.

Debra Ann Lawrence, age 57 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, February 25, 2017 at her home in Butler. She was born February 9, 1960 to William Herbert and Lois Ann Smith Dunlap in Independence, Missouri.

Debbie is survived by her fiance` Terry Roberts of Butler, Missouri; three sons, Billy Jo Lawrence of Pilot Grove, Missouri, Travus Dean Lawrence and wife Stephanie and Todd Douglas Lawrence and wife Amy, all of Butler, Missouri; her father, Bill Dunlap of Amoret, Missouri; two sisters, Diane DeLozier and husband Gene and Doreen McDonald, all of Butler, Missouri; one brother, David Dunlap and fiance` Janet West of Amoret, Missouri; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; and two grandchildren, Logan Dean Lawrence and Aiden Gabriel Lawrence.
