Hume news

The community of Hume wishes to extend their sympathy to Karen Kennedy of Butler, MO. Karen passed away on February 2. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Jean Zinn is now residing in Prescott Country View Nursing home in Prescott, KS. She would greatly enjoy a card or drop by and visit.

Bennett Irwin celebrated her birthday at her home on Sunday evening with her favorite meal, homemade chicken and noodles and brownies hosted by her parents, Jason and Cassie Irwin. Bennett turned 11 years old on February 22.

Cheyenne and Samantha Davidson both had birthdays on February 23; a very happy birthday and many more to all of these young ladies.

The O5O Club will meet on February 20 for a carry-in meal at the Hume Community Center. There will be a brunch like meal for everyone to enjoy. Don’t worry if you don’t bring anything just drop in a donation at the door will be great. There is always plenty to go around. Come and enjoy delicious food and lots of fellowship.

The 75th Annual Hume Fair and Rodeo will be August 1 thought August 5th this year. This year’s parade theme is “75 Years of Summer Nights and Arena Lights”. We are looking for Prince and Princess Candidates ages 5 to 11 years old, also Rodeo Queeen Candidates ages 12 to 18 years of age. If you interested just contact any fairboard member or call 660-643-7637 or 7121.

The Annual Sweetheart Dinner at the Hume United Methodist Church was held on February 12. The Men did an excellent job as usual on the delicious meal. The youth did a beautiful job decorating the basement. Mackinzi and Kennidi Harris provided a very entertaining skit with the rest of the kids providing music for the program. The evening was a huge success.

Obituary - Jack H. Atteberry

Jack H. Atteberry 87 of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville surrounded by love and family.

Final arrangements entrusted to Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Service time and a complete obituary will be posted when that information becomes available.








Harrisonville man seriously injured in rollover accident

On 2/25/17 around 3:15pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a one vehicle rollover accident in the Southbound lanes of I-49 at Mile Marker 161.6 in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Dodge Caravan driven by 43 year old Christopher R. Stephens of Harrisonville, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a sign post before traveling through the grass causing the vehicle to overturn and catch fire.

Mr. Stephens sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported by Life Flight Eagle to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Miller Tow.

Obituary - Michael Edward Bruhn

Michael Edward Bruhn
Michael Edward Bruhn Michael Edward Bruhn, 61, of Nevada, MO passed from this life on February 26, 2017 at Freeman Health System in Joplin, MO following a battle with cancer. Michael was born on October 23, 1955 in Eureka, KS to Kenneth Edward Bruhn and Norma Lee (Armitage) Bruhn.

Michael was raised in Eureka, KS and moved with his family to Clinton as a teenager and attended Clinton High School. He came to Nevada in the early 1980’s and spent most of his life here working as a cook at White Grill, Nevada Country Club, and Buzz’s BBQ. Michael was loved by his many friends and he loved golfing and cooking. He enjoyed attending sporting events with his son and dad and was an avid KC Chief’s fan. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada.

He is survived by his parents Kenneth and Norma Bruhn, Nevada; Kenneth Edward Bruhn, II, son, Nevada; Terri Cornell, sister, and her husband Paul, Clinton, MO; Stacy Harrington, niece, and her husband Will; great nieces Taylor and Briana and great nephew Noah; and several aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Bill Platt officiating. Those who wish may contribute in Michael’s memory to American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association in care of Ferry Funeral Home.










MSHP Helicopter And Marine Operation Troopers Rescue Missing Fisherman

At approximately 8 p.m. on February 24, 2017, Donna Stearns, from Harrisonville, MO, contacted Troop A, Lee’s Summit and requested Troop A officers assist her in locating her missing 49-year-old husband, Kenneth Stearns. 

Mrs. Stearns stated she and her husband were camping in the area and Mr. Stearns was reportedly fishing by boat on Truman Lake near Sparrowfoot Campground since approximately 1 p.m., and had not returned. Troop A officers and Patrol helicopter 93MP responded to assist in the search. 

At approximately 4 a.m., on February 25, 2017, the Patrol helicopter located Mr. Stearns on the lake near a partially submerged sand bar between the Sparrowfoot and Deepwater access, in a remote area of the lake. The Patrol pilot directed officers by boat to Stearns location where they extracted him and transported him to the Sparrowfoot boat ramp where emergency personnel were waiting. Mr. Stearns was transported to Golden Valley Hospital before being transferred to Kansas University Medical Center. 

Mr. Steans suffered serious health effects from being exposed to the elements. Watercraft operators must consider the effect their actions have on others:

Obituary - Tonya LeAnn Kerr

Tonya LeAnn Kerr, 22, of Nevada, MO passed from this life on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. Tonya was born on October 9, 1994 in Nevada to Paul Thomas Kerr and Lisa Ann (Harth) Thurman.

Tonya grew up in the Nevada and Fort Scott, KS areas. She became disabled at the age of six following an automobile accident.

Survivors include her father, Paul Kerr, Whitewood, SD; step-father, Dale Thurman, Oswego, KS; grandfather, Donald Bohm, Whitewood, SD, grandmother, Pamela Harth, Nevada; aunt and uncle, Ray and Angela Proctor, of the home in Nevada; uncle, Michael Harth, Nevada; aunts, Cindy Brown, Joplin; , Debbie and Tom Gray, Lee’s Summit, MO, Shelley Bowers, Stantonsburg, NC, Christina and Jason Coffield, Whitewood, SD, and uncle, Joseph and Jamie Bohm, Fourche, SD, and numerous other aunts and uncles in South Dakota as well as several cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother Lisa Ann Thurman, Feb 9, 2001, and her grandfather, Dean Harth.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. A private family committal will follow in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, MO.






Vehicle theft from Appleton City Feed Store

On February 22, 2017 an employee of the Appleton City Feed Store contacted the Bates County Sheriff’s Office about truck that was stolen from the feed store the previous day. 

The employee found the stolen truck near Stirling Drive in Butler and contacted the Sheriff’s Office. 

St. Clair County was notified since the crime happened in St. Clair County. 

A Detective from St. Clair County processed the truck and then it was turned over to the owner.












Two arrested after disturbance in Adrian

On February 24, 2017 Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to 8th street in Adrian, MO in regards to a disturbance that resulted in two arrests. Child Services were at the residence and was requesting help. 
Arguments between the two parties escalated and an altercation occurred.

Frank Woodall (DOB 10/12/1989) and Barbara Gift (DOB 4/23/1965) were transported to the Bates County Jail.

Mr. Woodall was charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and for Resisting Arrest. His bond was set at $5000.00 cash or surety.

Gift was charged with Resisting Arrest. Her bond was set at $5000.00 cash or surety.
