Obituary - Joy L. Gress

Joy L. Gress
Joy L. Gress, age 68, of Clinton, MO, died at Kansas City Hospice House, on Saturday, March 4, 2016.

Joy was born February 25, 1949 to Gordon Denison, Sr. and Mary ‘Powell’ Denison of Winona, MN. After high school, she worked for various laundry facilities. Joy worked for Elite Laundry for several years before retiring. She was also a very dedicated worker at the Samaritan Center Thrift Shop in Clinton.

Survivors include her daughter, Kelly Apsher (Chris); one grandson, Chase Christian Apsher; nine brothers and sisters, Yvonne Denison, Brent Denison, Blane Denison (Patti), Gordon Denison, Jr., Greg Denison (Ronneta), Cheryl Wheeler, Patty Stewart and Susan Jones; and several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and a brother, Doyle Denison.

The family will receive visitors at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Consalus Funeral Home, Clinton. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM.

Joy's wish was that memorial contributions be made to ALS and left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd St., Clinton, MO 64735.

Obituary - Harold Jay Holmes

Harold Jay Holmes
Harold Jay Holmes, age 77, Prescott, Kansas passed away on Monday March 6, 2017 at the Prescott Country View. He was born on December 15, 1939 at Prescott the son of Harold S. and Marguerite Coon Holmes. He graduated from Prescott High School in 1957. Jay served his country in the United States Army from 1963 through 1965 stationed in Germany. 

Jay lived and farmed in the Prescott area until he moved to Fort Scott in 1998. He loved to fish, spending lots of time catching big bass at the coal pits near Prescott. He loved music and was a fantastic trumpet player. He was married to Jane Turpin and was later divorced. 

He is survived by a sister, Elma Avery of Fort Scott, a brother, Leon and wife, Marilyn of Prescott, 4 nieces and 4 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Milton, and a nephew Jay Lee Cassida.

Graveside service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Holmes Cemetery in Prescott, Kansas. The family suggest contributions to Prescott Countryview Nursing Home and may be sent in care of Schneider Funeral Home P.O. Box 525 Pleasanton, Kansas 66075. The essential function of the position within the organization is to oversee and direct operations of the City’s Police Department. KLETC Certification is required. Must be able to pass psychological exam, strong background check and have clear driving record. Prefer at least 5 years of active law enforcement. Previous supervisory position would be a plus. Must be willing to relocate to the City of Pleasanton or live within 10-minute response time of Pleasanton, Kansas.

Loucinda Maria Grant, age 33 of Nevada, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Nevada.

She was born on October 26, 1983 in Nevada. Loucinda was raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School with the Class of 2000. She lived her whole life in Nevada and worked as a cashier for Ramey’s Grocery Store for several years and later for the Nevada Truck Stop. 


Loucinda’s greatest love was spending time with her mother and children. She also loved fishing and camping and helping out at the Nevada Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include her children, Kristofer Grant, Clearwater, KS, Kassandra Grant, and Kendall Grant of the home, her parents, Cynthia Caviness and Dennis of Nevada, and Douglas Starbuck, Sr., Nevada, three brothers, Douglas Starbuck, Jr, Nevada, Dewayne Davis, Farmington, IA, and Dennis Caviness, Jr., of Arizona, three sisters, Jessica Fredrickson, Oklahoma, Samantha Stringfellow, Cameron, MO, and Rebecca Davis, Keokuk, IA, her special friend, Roy Collins of Nevada, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Friday afternoon at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada and a Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday March 11, 2017 at the Nevada Eagles Lodge in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the family c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Ken E. Kmak, age 59 of Butler, Missouri died February 15, 2017 in Butler. He was born November 9, 1957 to Adam and Lorraine Kuznicki Kmak in Chicago, Illinois.

Ken is survived by his brother, Tom Kmak of Scottsdale, Arizona and a special friend, Tom Jobe of Butler, Missouri. More obituary information pending.
