Shoplifting complaint at Dollar General in Appleton City

On April 2, a St. Clair County deputy took a shoplifting complaint from an employee at Dollar General, Appleton City. The employee reported an unknown white male, possibly in his thirties, wearing a dark colored baseball hat, dark colored shirt, and dark colored zip up jacket entered the store with an empty plastic bag.

A photo of the suspect from security
footage. Those with any information
concerning his identity are urged to
contact the St. Clair County Sheriff's
Office Tip Line 417-646-5832.
He wandered around the store for a few minutes picking up various items and placing them in the bag. Items included a black wallet, Tide detergent pods, a cell phone power bank, and a cell phone charger. There was also another unknown item placed in the bag.

A short time later the individual brought the bag up to the cash register and stated he wanted to return the items inside his bag.

The cashier told the individual he did not have the items in the bag when he entered the store.

The man insisted they were and advised employees to look up security footage to prove his story.

The items were left near the register and the video footage was checked. The video allegedly showed the man pull an empty plastic Dollar General bag from a rack and enter the store with the bag in his pocket. It showed the man take items off the shelf and place them into the bag before proceeding to the register.

While employees were viewing the video, the man went back to the counter, pulled the bag from his jacket pocket, filled it with the same items, and walked out of the store without paying for any of the items. A request for prosecution was signed and the value of the items was estimated at $50.

Donald Lee Comer
Donald Lee Comer, 75, of Adrian, MO passed away peacefully Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Breezy Meadows in Butler, MO surrounded by family.

A Celebration of Life for Don is set for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO with visitation from 5:00-7:00. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Western Missouri Antique Tractor and Machinery Association or to the Adrian Athletic Booster Club.

Don was born January 31, 1942 in Coffeyville, KS to Edgar and Gladys (Bates) Comer. In 1955, Gladys married Don’s stepfather, Bobby G. Brown. Don graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City in 1960 and soon after went to work for the Kansas City Star, retiring after 40 years of service.

Don was a kind-hearted man who loved his family, music, sports, and model railroading. He played bass guitar in many bands over the years, including The Down Yonder Band and The Paper Cuts. He was a regular in the stands and on the sidelines keeping stats for Adrian High School sporting events. Being a huge KC Royals and Chicago Cubs fan he was pleased to see them both win a World Series.

On July 23, 1977, Don married Rita (Veale) Bellairs, blending their families and living in Adrian, where they have made their home for 39 years.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Vicki Ellen Mingucci, one grandson, Jacob Lee Comer, and most recently, his beloved dog, Benji. He is survived by his wife, Rita; his children, daughter, Patricia Morris and husband, Russ; son, Bobby Comer and wife Becky; stepdaughter, Renee Bellairs; stepson, James Bellairs and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Jeremy Hager and wife, Vanessa, Jessica Hager, Madelyn and Mason Morris, Christopher Comer, Jordan Bellairs, and Sarah Bellairs; and great-grandchildren, Brody, Braddock, Brock, and Brecklyn Hager.
