The men and women of this office give so much of themselves to serve our community. It is truly humbling to know the level of support that the public has for us and what we do each day.

Obituary - Ivan “Junior” Showalter, Jr.

Ivan “Junior” Showalter, Jr. 82 of Drexel, Missouri passed away April 3, 2017 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (660-679-0009). 

Visitation will be held prior to services Sunday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm also at the chapel. Cremation to follow services with a private family inurnment at a later date. 

Contributions are suggested, in lieu of flowers, to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

Ivan Showalter, Jr. was born September 19, 1934 in Strasburg, Missouri to Ivan and Allene Maupin Showalter. He grew up in the Drexel, Missouri area and attended Drexel Schools. He was united in marriage to Sandra Reilly in 1955. To this union two children were born. On January 15, 1972 Junior married Frances L. Wade Blanton. Junior worked for many years as a warehouse supervisor for wholesale building materials. He later retired from Reardon Pallet Company.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald Showalter, son Donald Blanton, son-in-law Richard Pittman, grandson Bryan Blanton, and great-granddaughter Kayla Michelle Blanton. He is survived by his wife Frances Showalter of the home in Drexel, MO., daughter Cindy Jobes of Lee’s Summit, MO., son Richard Showalter and wife Kelly of Lake of the Ozarks, MO., son Dennis Blanton and wife Linda of Osawatomie, KS., son Steve Blanton and wife Lisa of Lenexa, KS., daughter Vickie Pittman of Peculiar, MO., brother Jim “Short” Showalter and wife Caroline of Drexel, MO., eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.





From the Linn County Kansas Sheriff's Office

The Linn County Sheriff's Office recently conducted a search warrant in the Blue Mound area related to the theft of some female clothing. 

In addition to the items reported stolen other female clothes were found that we believe may have been stolen but have not been reported.

Obituary - Phyllis E. Ross

Phyllis E. Ross, 68 of Butler, Missouri passed away April 3, 2017 at her home in Butler. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Butler with Fr. Tom Hermes as Celebrant. 

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the Mullinax Funeral Home (660-679-0009) in Butler. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Messages of condolence for the family may be left at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.

James “Jim” LeRoy Ellis
Funeral services for Jim Ellis will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. 

Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Ohio Street United Methodist Church, Heartland Hospice, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. 

James “Jim” LeRoy Ellis, age 90 of Butler, Missouri died Monday, April 3, 2017 at Medicalodge Nursing Center in Butler. He was born September 3, 1926 to Wilbur Franklin and Alice Irene Hodges Ellis in Archie, Missouri.

Jim is survived by two daughters, Pamela Sue Dodds and husband Caroll and Paula Kay Morgan and husband Lynn all of Butler, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Patricia Gail Higgins and husband Jerry of Golden, Colorado and Diana Lynn Lyman of Springfield, Missouri; three grandchildren, Lindsey Morgan, Rachel Searles and husband Travis and Robin Gier and husband Luther; two step grandchildren, Scot Higgins and wife Michelle and Brett Higgins and wife Candace; five great-grandchildren, Tristyn, Avry, Sophia, Remmington and Raylan; and five step great-grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Beckett, Margo and Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Yula Ellis; his second wife Doris Ellis; one sister, Billie Giffin; and granddaughter Hannah Morgan in 1982.






Search Suspended for Tonight in Cass County

The Cass County Sheriff's Office will be suspending the area search due to darkness. ​Due to the ongoing investigation in the area Y Highway will be closed to traffic except for local residents. 

There will continue to be a large law enforcement presence in the area overnight and into the next 2 days. 

 Investigators will meet Wednesday morning to evaluate weather before resuming the search

The Butler FFA Plant Sale is open daily selling Vegetables and Bedding Plants and Hanging Baskets. 

Vegetables are $1.00 per 4 pack, Bedding Plants are selling for $2.00. The Butler FFA Chapter Plant Sale includes hanging Baskets priced at $10.00 to $15.00 . 


This includes Wondering Jews, Geraniums, Wave Petunia, Coleus and Mixed Varieties.

The Butler FFA Greenhouse is open daily from 1:30 until 4:00.
A reminder that the Farmer’s Market, will open April 13th on the Butler Square.


The Greenhouse Plant Sale is located at 420 south Fulton Street in Butler.
