Obituary - Merritt Taylor Parks

Merritt Taylor Parks, 58, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of Clinton, Mo., died Thursday, April 27, 2017 as the result of a motorcycle accident.

He was born in Clinton, Mo., on August 16, 1958, the son of Monte Delmar "Buck" Parks, Jr., and Bonnie Joyce (Trent) Parks.

He married Carol Lee Arthur in Kansas City, Mo., on December 19, 2000, and she survives of the home.

Merritt was a chef for General Motors Corporation at the Fairfax plant. He enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, surviving are one son, Aaron Christopher, Seattle, Washington; two stepsons, Brent Allen and Christopher Allen, both of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandsons, Christopher Allen, Jr., and Eli; two brothers, Monte Delmar Parks, III and wife Marilyn, Topeka, Kansas, and Martin Parks and wife Shirley, Seattle, Washington; one sister, Melanie Clovis, Seattle, Washington; and very special friends, Matthew and Floyd Sperry.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Parks will be cremated under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. There are no services scheduled at this time.

Nevada Police Detectives are attempting to locate the following vehicle and identify the subject in the following video/photos. The vehicle in question is a 2007 Chevy Impala with Missouri license plate AH3S4L.

The following video/photos were captured from a Fort Scott, Kansas store around 1 A.M. on May 3, 2017.

Norma Marie Nichols, age 86 of Harrison, Arkansas died Friday, April 28, 2017 at Mount Vista Nursing Home in Harrison. She was born May 29, 1930 to Elvis (Jim) Alvin and Cleo M. Ruddell Ehart in Bates County, Missouri.

Norma is survived by two sons, Randy Nichols of Dearing, Kansas and Clint Nichols and wife Leslie of Harrison, Arkansas; two daughters, Paula George of Raytown, Missouri and Alice McGrath of Kansas City, Missouri; five granddaughters, Kathy Hoffman, Kalena George, Kayleigh Nichols, Courtney Nichols and Lane Nichols; and a great-granddaughter, Walker Hoffman. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul Nichols in 2010; and one sister, Sue Minnick.




Obituary - Gloria Mae Strange

Gloria Mae Strange, age 79, La Cygne, Kansas passed away on Tuesday May 2, 2017 at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born on March 26, 1938 at Jingo, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Ruth Madin Van Vlack. She attended Jingo one room school, La Cygne Grade and High School graduating in the Class of 1956. Through her lifetime, she worked at different occupations including rural carrier for the Kansas City Star. She was currently employed by the City of Linn Valley, a position she has held for nineteen years. She enjoyed Sunday evenings with her nephew Mike and wife Brandy playing cards and always eating desert first. She won the last three games of cards they played. She also enjoyed her monthly visit to her niece Kay and husband Paul to spend the day. She loved Kentucky Fried Chicken. She enjoyed going their to celebrate her birthday each year. She enjoyed living at LaHarper Heights and time spent with her good friend Doris. Gloria is survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Burial will be in the Jingo Cemetery. Two vehicle accident early this morning in Butler

On 5/3/17 around 5:32am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Butler Fire Department and Butler Police Department responded to a two vehicle accident at the intesection of Missouri 52 Highway West and I-49 in Butler.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occured when the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 74 year old George M. Parker of Foster, Missouri turned into and struck the 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by 35 year old Jeremy R. Shouse of Butler, Missouri.


A passenger in Mr. Parker's car 73 year old Carol A. Parker of Foster, Missouri sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.


Both vehicles received extensive damages and both were towed from the scene by Don's Tow of Butler, Missouri.

Wanted Fugitive caught after short foot pursuit

On April 25, 2017, officers responded to 100 East US 54 Highway, Casey's General Store, concerning a report of a suspicious person. 

The investigation resulted in the arrest of Timothy A. Hocking, 30, of Yuma, AZ, charging him with Resisting Arrest, Stealing, and Fugitive from Justice with an Arizona Warrant charging him with Parole Absconder. 

Mr. Hocking was also arrested for an El Dorado Springs Municipal Warrant charging him with Failure to Appear for the original charge of Property Damage with a $370.00 bond. 

He was transported to the Cedar County Jail pending extradition to Arizona.




Search Warrant Served in Eldorado Springs Missouri

Items located in the home
On April 25, 2017, officers of the El Dorado Springs Police Department, assisted by Cedar County Deputies, and St. Clair County Sheriff's K-9 unit, served a search warrant at 1404 South Summer Street, after receiving information of illegal drug activity. Evidence of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were located.

The investigation resulted in the arrests of Kelly L. Klotz, 52, Kerri R. Parks, 45, Steven W. Whitesell, 37, and Tasha L. Whitesell, 26, all of El Dorado Springs for the probable cause of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Keeping and Maintaining a Public Nuisance, Possession of Amphetamine Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Less than 35 grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Officers completed probable causes statement for these charges.

Officers received a Cedar County Warrant charging Klotz with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, with a $15,000.00 cash bond, and a Cedar County Warrant charging Parks, with Possession of a Controlled Substance, with a $5,000.00 bond. Klotz was transferred to the Cedar County Jail pending bond and a court appearance. Parks was released on bond pending a court appearance.

Steven Whitesell was released pending charges per the Cedar County Prosecuting Attorney. The Cedar County Prosecuting Attorney also declined to file charges on Tasha Whitesell.
