Saturday Afternoon & Evening Storms

Storms moving through Kansas early this morning will continue east into western Missouri where they will dissipate; and while these morning storms are not expected to have much severe potential, they will help set the stage for storms later in the day that will be severe. Current expectations are that more thunderstorms will redevelop in eastern Kansas around noon, with this round of storms once again moving east into Missouri.

While there will be a threat of severe weather across eastern Kansas and all of Missouri, the focus for the most damaging and dangerous severe weather will be in areas along and south of I-70 between Noon and 9 PM.

The threats from the severe weather will include all types, ranging from large hail and damaging winds of 60+ MPH to isolated tornadoes; though the highest potential for tornadoes will be across extreme southeast Kansas and far southwest Missouri early this afternoon as storms begin to develop and move east.

Today would be a great day to review your severe weather plans and practice your weather awareness!

Man Shot After Pointing Gun at Officer in Clinton Missouri

 Danny Lee Jones
On the night of Friday, May 26th at approximately 11:15 P.M., Clinton Police Officers were dispatched to the alley that runs behind the north side of the Clinton Square in reference to a male subject breaking windows at the rear of a business. Witnesses there yelled at the male subject and he ran west through the alley. At one point he stopped and pointed an unknown object at the witnesses.

Officers searched the area for the subject but did not locate him. At 11:46 P.M., Officers were dispatched to a residence only a few blocks from the attempted break in.

The residence was located in the 200 block of West Green Street and the residents there said that a man knocked on their front door. When they did not recognize him they shut the door but the man tried to open it. The man then appeared at their back door. The residents then called the police.

Upon arrival, a Clinton Police Officer confronted the man who was standing on a second story balcony. When the man raised a pistol and pointed it at the officer he was fired upon by the officer and struck in the leg. Officers then took the man into custody and rendered medical aid until the Golden Valley Ambulance arrived.

The man was identified as 35 year old Danny Lee Jones of Clinton. Jones was placed under arrest for 24 hour investigation of 1st degree assault on a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action. He was transported by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, where he was treated for his gunshot wound and then admitted to the hospital for an illness unrelated to the gunshot wound. The officer was not injured and was placed on routine paid administrative leave. The shooting is being investigated by the Division of Drug and Crime Control of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Henry County Prosecutor Richard Shields responded to the scene to assist in pursuit of a warrant for Jones. The Clinton Police Department was also assisted on the scene by the Henry County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
