Nadine passed away at the AC Manor on June 1, 2017 at the age of 104 years, six months. At the time of her death, she was the oldest St. Clair County resident. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church from infancy, being confirmed on May 1, 1927. She attended Centennial School east of Appleton City for grades 1-6 and the Trinity Lutheran Christian Day-School in Appleton City for grades 7-8. With the exception of a very short time spent being employed in Kansas City, Nadine has spent her entire life in the Appleton City/Rockville areas.

Nadine grew up on a farm 5 miles east of Appleton City on the present- day HWY AA. On August 31, 1934, at the age of 22, Nadine was married to Charles Hearting. They moved to a farm located south of Appleton City where they lived until they retired from farming and moved into town. Nadine was a resident at the AC Manor for several years preceding her death. The staff had commented many times on Nadine’s great sense of humor and her ability to entertain them with her verbal responses.

Nadine received great joy from working in her yard and garden. She was so happy to share and trade flower starts with her neighbors as well as to share garden produce. Her huge flower garden was always greatly enjoyed by her neighbors. She and Charles especially enjoyed raising strawberries. Nadine continued caring for her flowers and small garden until the age of 95. Nadine was also a very active member in the Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and Bible Study.

Butler man arrested after hiding from police under a pile of clothes

Daniel Chastain
On June 2, 2017 during his normal patrol routine, a Deputy observed a stolen truck that was parked in the driveway of a residence on Elm Street in Amsterdam, MO.

The truck had been stolen from Passaic, MO. Upon arrival of assisting Deputies and both K-9 Units they tried to make contact with the suspect who was located inside the house.

The suspect, identified as Daniel Chastain, would not come outside the residence. The homeowner gave Deputies consent to enter the house. K-9 Units located Chastain in a bedroom hiding under a pile of clothes. Chastain failed to comply with the Deputies order. After a short struggle, K-9 Units apprehended Chastain and he was taken into custody.

He was then transported to the Bates County Memorial Hospital to be treated for his wounds sustained from both of the K-9 Units. Chastain was then taken to the Bates County Jail where he is currently being held.

A female subject inside the residence was also taken to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and was questioned but was later released pending charges.

Daniel Chastain (DOB 10/21/1977) had a warrant out of Bates County for Failure to Appear on Non-Support. The bond on that warrant is $1000.00 cash only. He also had 3 warrants out of City of Butler for Failure to Appear on Property Damage, Flee to Elude and Driving while Suspended. The total bonds on the Butler warrants is $1037.50 cash or surety.

Chastain is currently facing charges for being in Possession of Stolen Property and could face more charges later.
