Local School Starts GoFundMe Campaign

St. Mary's School in Montrose
Montrose, Mo - June 5, 2017 - St. Mary’s School in Montrose, MO has started a GoFundMe campaign in an effort to help support its small over hundred-year-old school. The school uses creative approaches to help itself.

Older kids tutor younger kids and lead physical exercise in the school yard. The school only has four teachers for prekindergarten through eighth grade. Father Tom Hermes, the parish priest, serves as the principal, teacher and assists with food service to name just a few things.

The school has no sports and no band. The parish holds fund raising events like its annual Labor Day Picnic meal and country store serving about 1,500 meals in one day to support the school. However, with the declining number of families in the rural farming community, it is hard to keep the school operational.

The GoFundMe campaign gofundme.com/save-st-marys-catholic-school is an innovative approach to help the school keep its private rural faith based education school open. Contact: Bill Roos kubilly@gmail.com Blue Springs, MO 816-210-1177

Scam warning from the Bates County Sheriff's Office

We have recently been made aware of telemarketers or scammers calling people and the number shows up as a local number.

When you answer you think you're getting a call from a neighbor or someone in our community but it's not. In today's world of internet and computer software programs a call can be made via an app or website. To get you to answer they randomly use a local number.

The person that has the number that shows up on your called I'D has no idea a call was made because it doesn't come from their phone.

These calls are not traceable by law enforcement and we encourage you to NEVER give out personal information over the phone to anyone that has called you.

If you have any question please don't hesitate to call and talk with a deputy.

Sheriff Chad Anderson
