Obituary - Dustin Tyler Van Winkle


Dustin Tyler Van Winkle, age 29, of Mesa, Arizona passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at his home.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Vansant-Mills Funeral Chapel, Clinton, Missouri.  

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 5 also at the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, Clinton.  Family suggest memorial contributions to the Good Hope Cemetery and can be left in care of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home.  Condolences and fond memories may be left online at www.vansant-millsfuneralhome.com.

Dustin loved to play the guitar and drums, and he enjoyed bowling.  He graduated from Platte County High School in 2006.  He had lived in Kansas and Missouri before moving to Arizona.  He was a clerk at Goodwill in Mesa, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his mother Fern Bailey and his maternal grandparents.

Justin is survived by his parents, Erving "Rob" and Lorenza "Liza" (Abera) Van Winkle of Clinton; his son, Jayden Barrera of Clinton;  one brother, David Van Winkle of Platte City, Missouri; two sisters, Donna Hembree of the home and Diane Van Winkle of Springdale, Arkansas.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - Lawrence "David" Cooley Jr.

Memorial services for Lawrence "David" Cooley Jr. will be 12 noon Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Souls Harbor Assembly of God in Independence, Missouri with Pastor Larry G. Hoskins officiating. Lawrence David Cooley Jr., age 59 of Blue Springs, Missouri died Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at John Knox Village House in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was born December 10, 1957 to Lawrence David Sr. and Betty Jo Harbert Cooley in Independence, Missouri. 

David is survived by one son, Lawrence David Cooley III and wife Sarah of Grain Valley, Missouri; three daughters, Rebecca Cooley of Blue Springs, Missouri, Jessica Cooley of Independence, Missouri and Kathryn Byrd and husband Jeremy of Branson, Missouri; his mother, Betty Cooley of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother, John Cooley Sr. and wife Carol of Lee's Summit, Missouri and two sisters Cynthia Simmons of Greentown, Indiana and Gaye Morgan and husband Kevin of Independence, Missouri. David was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Randall "Randy" Cooley.





St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Warrant Arrests

On June 29, 2017 Robert Robinson III, 44, Montrose, was arrested on two St. Clair County warrants for failing to appear in court on ordinance violations. Robinson is charged with exceeding the posted speed limit by 16-19 miles per hour and expired license. Both charges stem from Osceola Police Department investigation son March 3, 2016. The warrants were issued on Oct. 26, 2016 and total bond is set at $200 cash only.

On June 29, the Osceola Police Department arrested Heather Lavish, 35, Osceola, on a St. Clair County warrant charging her with class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class A misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.
The charges stem from an investigation on Jan. 24, when St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office deputies, members of the Mid Missouri Multi Jurisdiction Drug Task Force, and Osceola Police Department officers went to at Lavish’s residence on C Street, Osceola, in reference to drug activity. During the investigation a glass pipe with a white powdery and burnt substance inside was located.  A straw was also located inside a plastic container. The substance inside the glass pipe field tested positive for methamphetamine.


On June 30, Alan Haverland, 59, Deepwater, was arrested on a Carroll County warrant for failing to appear in court on an infraction of failing to display plates on a vehicle or trailer. The warrant was issued on Aug. 25, 2016 and stems from a Missouri State Highway Patrol investigation on April 30. Bond is set at $150 cash only.

Clinton School District Hires New Clinton Middle School Assistant Principal

Bretta Wyatt
The Clinton School District is pleased to announce it has hired Bretta Wyatt as its next middle school assistant principal and activities director.

Mrs. Wyatt is currently the library media specialist and curriculum and data coordinator of Oak Grove Middle School in the Oak Grove School District. Mrs. Wyatt has spent 13 of her 15 years as an educator in the Oak Grove School District. 

The other two years Wyatt served as an instructional coach for the Fort Osage School District. Wyatt has a reading specialist certification in grades K-12 and has also served as a middle school reading teacher, 5th grade teacher, and five years as an adjunct professor teaching methods of reading instruction for the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO.

Mrs. Wyatt and her husband Chris, have been married 31 years and have three sons. Wyatt expressed a sincere passion for middle school students and cannot wait to get know the students, staff, and community of Clinton.

Wyatt will officially begin her duties on August 1st, 2017.
