Florida woman arrested in Bates County

On 7/30/17 around 12:02am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested  46 year old Suzanne T. Jones of Wellington, Florida.

She was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated 2.) Lane Violation.

Suzanne T. Jones was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and she was placed on a 12 hour detox hold.

Butler man arrested in Bates County

On 7/29/17 around 3:15pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 30 year old Keith A. Helvey of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Helvey was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated 2.) No Valid Drivers License 3.) Failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and placed on a 12 hour hold.









Drexel Fire Department responds to lawn mower fire

Around 4:09pm this afternoon the Drexel Fire Department was dispatched to a reported natural cover fire in the 34000 blk Metcalf Rd rural Miami County Kansas.

Upon the arrival of the 1st incoming unit to the scene a fully engulfed riding lawn mower was discovered.

The lawn mower was extinguished with minimal amount of grass involvement. The mower was a complete loss.

Standoff in Benton County ends after nearly 3 hours

(Benton County Sheriff's Office) In the Early morning hours of 7/29/17 two Sedalia men were arrested after a three hour stand off near 52 and 65 Highway near the town of Cole Camp. 

21 year old Patrick Carrington, and 18 year old Keyshawn Flowers are suspected of being involved with the shooting of a 16yo man in Sedalia. 

The Sedalia Police Dept, Benton County Sheriff's Office, and Mo Highway Patrol were involved with the apprehension of the suspects. Both men surrendered without further incident.









Obituary - Karl Lee Baggett

Karl Lee Baggett, 64, Nevada, MO passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg, KS, following a brief illness. Karl was born on August 31, 1952 in Nevada to Robert Lee and Nellie Viola (Crosswhite) Baggett. He married Sherri Rae Ventor on January 5, 1980 in Nevada and she survives of the home.

Karl grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1970 then went on to graduate from both Missouri Southern and Ft. Scott Community Colleges. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs, MO. He farmed for Lawrence Tally for over 10 years and also worked for Murphy Family Ventures for 16 years until he retired. Karl was an avid fan of the KC Royals and Chiefs and Missouri Tigers Basketball. He enjoyed 70’s music and camping and canoeing with Sherri. He was a loving and kind husband and father and was well loved by all his family and many friends.

Survives include his wife Sherri of the home; one daughter, Liberty Davis and her husband Steven, Jefferson City, MO; two brothers, Larry Baggett, Nevada and Donald Kenney and his wife Sharon, Springfield, MO; two sisters, Karen Clark & her husband Terry, Redlands, CA and Mary Nell Kenney, Bartlesville, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Baggett and Everett Kenney; nieces, Chelsea Hood and Mimi Morton and nephew, Kevin Kenney; great-niece, Victoria Brown; and sister-in-law, Debi Wadel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Les Brown officiating.; the family invites those who wish to share your memories. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home.

Obituary - Helen Lacy

Helen Lacy
Helen Lacy, 95 of Drexel, Missouri passed away July 28, 2017 at her granddaughter's home in Denison, Kansas. Cremation, with graveside memorial services will be 3:00 pm Monday, July 31, 2017 in Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Missouri. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions are suggested to Merwin Christian Church or a hospice of your choice.

Helen was born April 9, 1922 in Paola, Kansas to Robert and Frances Miller Steen. She was united in marriage to James Lacy in 1944. They made their lifelong home on a farmstead near Drexel where they would raise their family. After loosing her husband of 56 years in 2000, Helen would continue to live on her own until the last few years. She was a member of the Merwin Christian Church and very much enjoyed the services.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, daughters, Laura Dee and Sheila Ann, and by three brothers, Rob Will Steen, Willis Steen, and Max Steen. She is survived by her son Dennis Lacy of Denison, KS., granddaughter Jo Lynn Vowe and Husband Ryan of Denison, KS., grandson Garret Lacy and wife Megan of Meridan, KS., great-grandchildren, McKinley and Harper Vowe and Brennan and Logan Lacy, along with nieces, extended family members and friends. Helen's sweet smile and kind spirit will be forever in the hearts of her loving family.
