Manhunt continues for Clinton man who shot and killed Clinton Police Officer

CLINTON, Mo. --- Authorities searched a home but came up empty-handed in the hunt for a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a western Missouri police officer.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Lowe says 39-year-old Ian McCarthy of Clinton is wanted for questioning in the death of 37-year-old Clinton police officer Gary Michael during a traffic stop late Sunday.

Sgt. Lowe said Monday that the car Michael stopped is registered to McCarthy.

He says the driver jumped out of the car and fired at the officer, who was able to return fire. The suspect drove about three blocks before crashing his car and fleeing on foot. Lowe says Michael was "heroic right to the end."

Michael was a lifelong resident of Clinton and leaves behind a wife and stepsons.

Stabbing suspect arrested in Joplin

On August 5, 2017 at 0538 AM an officer with the Joplin Police Department was on patrol in the area of 20th and Bird. He came across an adult male walking in the roadway. When he contacted him he found that he was covered in blood and had been stabbed in the chest. The male was in medical distress and the officer quickly realized he had a “sucking chest wound.” The officer applied immediate medical attention while Fire and EMS responded. The male was transported to the hospital.

A detective with the police department responded and began an investigation. He was able to track down a location where the assault possible occurred. While he and patrol checked an address of 1710 South Wall, they observed a male crawl out of a second story window before retreating back into the apartment. Officers eventually took a suspect into custody at that location for the assault.

The suspect as identified as Christopher J Sanders, 40, Joplin. Sanders was arrested for first degree assault and armed criminal action and those charges were sumitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office. They filled those charges with a $100,000 bond plus $10,000 cash only.

The victim, a 44 year old male from Joplin, is expected to recover from his significant injuries.












20 year old Louisburg Kansas man killed in fatality accident

On 8/6/17 around 2:00pm the Kansas State Highway Patrol along with Miami County Kansas Sheriff's Office responded to a two vehicle accident at 223rd and Lackman.

The Kansas State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2007 Ford F-250 Super Duty driven by 62 year old Ronald Claar of Spring Hill, Kansas attempted to make a left turn and pulled into the path and struck the 1991 Suzuki GX6 motorcycle driven by 20 year old Jack Lee Greene III of Louisburg, Kansas.

Mr. Greene was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and his body was transported to Frontier Forensics.

Garden City man arrested in Cass County


On 8/6/17 around 10:14pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County arrested 71 year old Jerry D. McCulloh of Garden City, Missouri.

Mr. McCulloh was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated- Persistent Offender 2.) Failure to maintain lane.

He was booked into the Cass County Jail in Harrisonville and later bonded out.

Clinton Police Officer Shot and Killed

Alert: Person of Interest in the fatal shooting of a Clinton Police Officer:
Ian McCarthy, 39, of Clinton. Any info call 911 or *55.

According to information from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Clinton Police Officer was shot and killed last night in Clinton.
37 year old Gary Michael, who has been with the Clinton P.D. for less than a year, was shot and killed following a traffic stop last night around 10:45 on Green Street, near the Henry Co. Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Patrol, which is conducting the investigation, Officer Michael has stopped a vehicle while on patrol.  They believe the suspect exited the vehicle and shot at Officer Michael.  They also say Officer Michael was able to return fire, but they do not know if the suspect was hit.  
The suspect then fled the scene and his whereabouts are unknown at this time(4:50am).  There is no positive identification of who the suspect is at this time.
