Dumpster Fire In Butler

Around 8:45pm the Butler Fire Department responded to a dumpster fire at Casey's General Store on Ft. Scott Street in Butler.

The fire was put out quickly and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.





Obituary - Wilma Lee Shupe

Wilma Lee Shupe, 85, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born on March 22, 1932 in Lamar, MO to Ora L. and Bertie A. (Lloyd) Faubion. 

She married Charles “Chick” Shupe on December 16, 1950 in Lamar and he preceded her in death on August 9, 2011.

Wilma attended Lamar High School and graduated in 1950. After their marriage, she and Chick moved to Nevada in 1952. Wilma worked for Swift Fertilizer for many years before purchasing the business with the partnership of Elton Caldwell, which was formerly known as C & S Fertilizer. After retiring, she enjoyed gardening and raising cattle with Chick on their farm. Wilma was also a member of the Bronaugh Christian Church where she played piano for many years.

Wilma is survived by two sons, both of Nevada. Ken Shupe and his wife Alice and Doug Shupe and his wife Lynne; three granddaughters, Jill Smith and her husband, Brian, Nevada, Ashley Forkner and her husband, Nathan, Richards, MO, and Whitney Forkner, Nevada; five great-grandchildren, Bronson and Adison Smith, Mason and Rhett Forkner, and Jackson Montgomery. One brother-in-law, John Shupe of Oklahoma City, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Kevin Moyers officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Bronaugh Christian Church or Vernon County Youth Fair in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Belton Police Department seeking public assistance



This is surveillance footage of a suspect involved in a car break- in in the back parking lot of Central Bank of the Midwest on August 23rd. This subject may be known to frequent the Main St area in Belton. 

Although the image is not very clear, we hope that the unique color of the suspect's jacket may be helpful in identifying this person.

Obituary - Sharesa Michelle Armstrong

Sharesa Michelle Armstrong 28, of Tishomingo, Oklahoma went to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday, August 29, 2017. She was born on July 26, 1989 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Darren Lee Armstrong and Theresa Juanita Williams. Sharesa was raised in Oklahoma and later in Missouri where she graduated from Drexel High School in 2007. She also attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma. She later moved to Dallas, Texas before moving back to Oklahoma where she was currently working in the Deli at Wal-Mart in Madill. She was a member of the Union Valley Baptist Church in Ada, Oklahoma and she enjoyed listening to music, dancing and going horseback riding, hunting, fishing and swimming. Her greatest love was being with her daughter Kristyn J’Lee Thomas.

She is survived by her daughter Kristyn J’Lee Thomas; parents Darren Lee Armstrong, Denison, Texas and Theresa Harris and FiancĂ©, Raymond Ramsdell, Tishomingo, Oklahoma; Tim Harris II, Godley, Texas; siblings Katherine Harris, Elisabeth Harris, Rebekah Harris, Clay Harris, Nicole Padgett and husband Nick, Nathan Ramsdell, Natalie Yaws and husband Tyler, Dalton Ramsdell and wife Sierra; Grandmother Debbie Williams; Grandfather Tim Harris; Several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles.

Sharesa was preceded in death by her dad; Chris Jones, Grandfather; Jackie Williams, Grandmother; Sue Harris, Grandmother; Joyce Armstrong and Grandfather; Glenn Armstrong.

Thomas Glenn Michael, 77, Harrisonville, MO, died Thursday, August 31, 2017 at his home. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, with burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. 

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 5 at the Atkinson Funeral Home.
