Adrian woman arrested on warrant

On 9/3/17 around 9:33pm the Adrian Police Department arrested 24 year old Anna E. McGrew of Adrian, Missouri.

She was arrested for 1.) Warrant - Possession of a controlled substance.

Anna E. McGrew was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and placed on a $10,000 cash/surety bond.

One escapes injury in Henry County Crash

One person was injured in a one-vehicle accident on September 3rd in Henry County on Missouri Highway 7 just east of County Road SE 901.

Gene L. Hensley, 62, Olathe, Kansas who was wearing a seat belt and traveling southbound in a 2007 Nissan, traveled off the right side of the roadway. 

The driver overcorrected, Subsequently, the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, coming to a rest on its wheels facing east.

Gene L. Hensley experienced minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. His vehicle had minor damage and was driven from the scene.





Garden City man seriously injured in Southern Missouri ATV Accident

On 9/2/17 around 7:20pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Webster County Missouri responded to a one vehicle ATV accident around 5 miles south of Seymour, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the  2017 Polaris RZR 19000 with an unknown operator on private property traveled into an area with standing water and overturned. The operator fled the scene on foot.

The subject who was identified as Mark L. Schmidt, 48, Garden City, Missouri sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri for treatment.

An investigation is pending at this time from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.









Obituary - Samuel I. Mason

Samuel I. Mason
Samuel I. Mason, age 84, a native and longtime Judge of Ft. Scott, died Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Mercy Hospital. He was born on March 23, 1933, in Ft. Scott, KS, the son of Raymond and Florence Wyckoff Mason. 

He graduated from Fort Scott High School with the class of 1951. He was an avid student attending FSCC, PSU, and the Judicial College of Reno, NV. He married Lora E. Dryer on October 30, 1954, in Ft. Scott. 

He worked for the railroad in his early years. At the age of 31, Sam became the youngest District Magistrate Judge in Kansas. 

He would continue to serve in this capacity until retiring in 1996 after 33 years. His accomplishments include: Jaycee’s President in 1965, was instrumental in starting a yearly rodeo and building the rodeo grounds, started a boy’s home by forming a board and raising funds, formed the Tri-Valley board, formed SEK Mental Health board in five counties, the executive director for SEKCAP, President of the FSHS Alumni Association, President of Administrative Board of the Methodist Church, co-writer of legislation for Meals on Wheels and Transportation in Kansas, President of the Probate Judges Association of Kansas, program director of SEK Correctional Facility and formed the board for CASA. 

Several awards include: Jaycee of the year, Boss of the year by the Jaycees, Outstanding non-Attorney Judge in the United States, Mental Health Board for 16 years, served on the committee that wrote the forms on Conservative and Guardianships of the State of Kansas, interviewed for Secretary of Corrections by Governor Finney, and was Vice-President of the Highway 69 Association. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Lora of the home; three daughters, Terri Pence and husband Patrick, Pittsburg, KS, Lizabeth Mason Finley and husband Michael, Altamont, KS, and Samie Kay Payne and husband Thomas, Nixa, MO; two sisters, Peggy Davis and husband Ralph, Ft. Scott, and Bonnie Taylor and husband Ron, Bronson, KS; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rev. Steve Cole will conduct funeral services at 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 6th, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View (Large) Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Honorable Samuel I. and Lora Mason Scholarship Fund, which may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, 201 S. Main, Ft. Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

Belton man arrested in Cass County

On 9/3/17 around 3:48pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County arrested 34 year old Jacob L. Voorhees of Belton, Missouri.

Mr. Voorhees was arrested for 1.) Felony Possession of a Controlled - Methamphetamine 2.) Misdemeanor Interfering with a arrest.

He was booked into the Cass County Jail in Harrisonville and later released.  





Butler JV Football News

Butler JV Football Update for Monday, September 4th. 

The Bears will host Knob Noster at 5:30 p.m. 

Due to the lack of JV players for the Panthers, the game will be two 12 minute quarters with a break between quarters.
