Obituary - Betty Ann Trower

Betty Ann Trower, 84, Nevada, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Freeman Health System in Joplin, MO. Betty was born on August 16, 1933 in Walker, MO to Orville E. and Mary Elizabeth (Ensor) Ogle. She married Leonard S. Trower on May 25, 1951 in Walker and he preceded her in death on January 13, 2004.

Betty graduated from Walker High School. She worked as a dietitian at Nevada Regional Medical Center until her retirement. Betty was an active member of the First Christian Church and enjoyed their Widow’s Group.


Survivors include her four children, Rick E. Trower and his wife Pam, Ozark, MO, Connie L. Shepley, Sheldon, MO, Linda J. Pearson, El Dorado Springs, MO, and Mike D. Trower and his wife Laura, Ozark; and 8 grandchildren, Gail Shepley, Derrick Trower, Deanna Cargill, Danielle Kerns, Rachel Pearson, Dana Chanove, Brittney Trower and Alyssa Trower. In addition to her husband Leonard, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dean Ogle.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO with Pastor Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow in Green Mound Cemetery, Harwood, MO. Friends may call from 8:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday.

Mary Jo Poindexter, age 83 of rural Drexel, Missouri died Friday, December 22, 2017 at her home near Drexel. She was born August 19, 1934 to Charles Joseph and Mary Ethel Carter Hartman in Drexel.

Mary Jo is survived by her husband Philip Poindexter of Drexel, Missouri; two sons, Darrell Poindexter and wife Marion of Drexel, Missouri and Dennis Poindexter of Bush City, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Vickie Poindexter of Harrisonville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Mitchell Poindexter and wife Jen, Lucas Poindexter and wife Shannon all of Houston, Texas and Michelle Poindexter and partner Felice Porrata of Adrian, Missouri, Richard Poindexter of Harrisonville, Missouri, David Poindexter of Drexel, Missouri and Matthew Poindexter and wife Cari of Archie, Missouri; and nine great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Rylee, Cole, Beau, Cody, Christopher, Emily, Haley and Hannah. Also surviving are three sisters; Jane Ellen Lane of Butler, Anna Marie Fink and husband Ernie of Drexel, Missouri and Jeanie Brewster and husband Earl of Adrian, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, J.E. Hartman.

Obituary - Berniece Ross

Berniece Ross, age 94, of Blue Mound, Kansas passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Miami County Medical Center. She was born at Mapleton, Kansas on June 28, 1923 the daughter of Ervin A. and Jessie V. Casteel Gillmore. She graduated from Blue Mound High School. 

She married Verne " Shorty" Ross on October 3, 1941. Together they had a dairy herd, farmed and raised hogs. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Rita Curtis, Marise Peterson, Erma Mayberry and Carol Murrow, and two infant sisters. Berneice was a fantastic cook, a talented artist, liked to fish and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. She attended the Church of Christ. Berniece is survived by a daughter, Sharon Ala and husband Gary, three sons: Gary Ross and companion Corrinne Toumberlin, Jerry Ross and wife Sandra and Vernon Ross and wife Penny, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and one great great at. 

Funeral service will be 2 pm Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Burial will be in the Sunny Slope Cemetery, Blue Mound. Visitation will be held from 1 pm to service time at the Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Vintage Park Activity Fund. Sheldon man arrested in St. Clair County

On Dec. 20, Earl Pinkman, 37, Sheldon, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with two counts of a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a class A misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Total bond is set at $20,000 cash or surety. The original charges stem from an Osceola Police Department arrest on Nov. 13, 2017.





El Dorado Springs man arrested in St. Clair County

On Dec. 21, Christopher Jackson, 38, El Dorado Springs, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with a class D felony possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor A unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

The charges stem from an incident on July 7, 2017, when a deputy took a report of a male individual on the west side of the Osceola square who attempted to hide a hypodermic syringe in a flower pot before entering the St. Clair County Courthouse. 

The deputy arrived at the flower pot in front of Stewart and Kiefer Realty and verified the item was a used syringe. It was seized it as evidence. 

During the investigation, deputies observed Jackson return from the courthouse and search the same flower pot the syringe was in. Residue from the syringe field tested positive for methamphetamine.
