Winning Powerball Numbers

The numbers for Saturday's Powerball have been drawn.

12-29-30-33-61 Powerball number: 26

Last week's drawing once again failed to produce a winner, and the size of the jackpot grew to an estimated $559 million. 

There are now longer odds, leading to less frequent winners and more frequent large jackpots.


Inmate found dead in the Barton County Jail

In the early morning hours of 01-06-2017 a Jailer at the Barton County Sheriff’s Office went to conduct a check of the inmates and located a female inmate deceased in her cell. The deceased inmate is a Colleen A. Blake, age 33, of Joplin, Mo and she was the only occupant of the cell. 

The next of Kin has been contacted and has been advised of the death. The Sheriff contacted the Vernon County Sheriff Jason Moser and asked for an agency assist to do an independent investigation on the in custody death. An investigator came from Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and investigated the death. 

The body has been sent to Frontier Forensic in Kansas City for an autopsy. Blake was incarcerated in the Barton County Jail on criminal charges of Tampering with a motor vehicle, city charges of failure to pay fines and contempt of court. She had been incarcerated in the Barton County Jail since 11-09-2017.

Obituary- Darren Laurence Kirk

Darren Laurence Kirk, 43, of Kansas City, MO died Monday, December 25, 2017 in Kansas City, MO. A Private Memorial is scheduled.

Darren was born January 7, 1974 in Harrisonville, MO to James and Joyce (Schmoll) Kirk. He was a 1993 graduate of Harrisonville High School.

Darren was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by one brother, David Kirk (Toni) of Greenwood, MO; three sisters, Denise Ponds (Wilburn) of Kansas City, MO, Danelle Roach (Jerry) of Garden City, MO and Deeta Geddes (A.J.) of Merriam, KS; one son, Sean L. Kirk of Pleasant Hill, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Lees Summit man arrested in Bates County

On 1/5/18 around 4:00pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 48 year old Jimmy D. Grainger of Lees Summit, Missouri.

Mr. Grainger was arrested for 1.) Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance 2.) Raymore Police Department Misdemeanor Warrants (X2) 3.) Failure to register a motor vehicle.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he is currently listed as bondable.

Stolen Dogs In Barton County

On 1-5-2018 a complaint was passed onto the Barton County Sheriffs Office. A man stated he resides on the Barton County/Dade County line and he was cleaning his dog kennels out and let his dog's run for a minute. A Black newer Ford truck stopped in road by his house. 

A few minutes went by and the truck left. He yelled for his dogs to come to the kennel and only three dogs returns. It was his belief the person in the truck took his dog. 

The incident took place close to Golden City. He said the dogs value is very expensive, but also has a lot of sentimental value.





Search Warrant Served In Benton County

On 01/02/18 Benton County Sheriffs Office along with Mid Missouri Drug Task force executed a search warrant at 321 C Street in Ionia, Benton County, Missouri for drugs.

During the execution the owner of the residence, James Hix, 59 was located in the kitchen area and was detained at that time.


A search of his person was conducted resulting in approximately 4.5 grams of methamphetamine on his person.

During the search of the residence another bag with methamphetimne was located with approximately 5.5 grams, digital scale, baggies, and other drug paraphernalia to use and deliver methamphetimne.

Hix was placed under arrest and a bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.

Obituary - William Corwin Pointer Jr. "Pete

William Corwin Pointer Jr. "Pete", age 71, Mound City, Kansas passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Prescott Country View. He was born at Fort Scott, Kansas on August 6, 1946 the son of William and Josephine McGlathery Pointer. He graduated from Pleasanton High School . 

On December 25, 1966, he married Ruby Fritts in Mound City, Kansas at the First Baptist Church. He worked as a pipe fitter for Conley Sprinkler before retirement. He was a member of the Pipe Fitter''s Union Local #669. Pete loved his family and community. He enjoyed taking care of his cattle. The family takes great solace in knowing that Pete was at peace with his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Brandon Pointer. Pete is survived by his wife, Ruby, two sons, Eric Pointer and wife Wendi, and Bryan Pointer, a brother Joe Pointer and wife Linda, a sister Maxine Johnson, and three granddaughters: Kyra, Jaidyn and Danyka.

Memorial service will be 7 pm Wednesday, January 10, 2017 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory Pleasanton Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm. The family suggests contributions to Children''s Mercy Hospital. On line condolences for the family can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
