NWS Springfield has issued a Fire Weather Special Statement for today 1/30/2018.

NWS Springfield has issued a Fire Weather Special Statement for today 1/30/2018.

Elevated Fire Danger Today...

The combination of brisk and gusty south winds and a dry air mass will lead to elevated fire weather conditions this afternoon
across extreme southeastern Kansas and much of western Missouri.

Sustained south winds of 10 to 20 mph are expected, with gusts of 20 to 30 mph. Meanwhile, afternoon humidity values will fall into the 25 to 35 percent range.

These conditions will favor the quick growth and spread of fires, especially in prairie grass regions

Please DO NOT burn until we receive substantial moisture, if you have lit a fire in the past couple days be sure to check on it and make sure it is completely out as those fires can rekindle and become out of control before a fire dept. can get to it!
