Obituary - Giffin Simmons

Giffin Simmons
Funeral services for Giffin Simmons will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Butler First Christian Church. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri.

Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Urich Christian Church, Cove Creek Christian Church, Salvation Army or Gideons International. Online condolences, www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

Giffin Simmons, age 73 of Butler, Missouri went to be with the Lord Saturday March 10, 2018 at his home in Butler after a lengthy illness. He was born June 13, 1944 to Giffin Field Sr. and Alice Mae Frakes Simmons in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Giffin spent his entire childhood in Orrick, Missouri. He met Pamela Annette Walker in high school; they married in 1965 and had just celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this past December. Giffin received his bachelor’s degree in history in 1966, and went on to receive his master’s and specialist’s degrees. He taught his entire career at Butler High school, starting in the year 1966 and teaching his final class in 2013. Though teaching was his first calling, preaching was his second. He began as pastor at the Urich Christian Church in 1973 and began, too, to preach at the Cove Creek Christian Church in 1975; he served both churches until his death.

Giffin is survived by his wife, Pamela Annette (Walker) Simmons, of Butler, Missouri; daughter Shannin Schroeder and husband Tim; and grandchildren Bailey and Emma, of Magnolia, Arkansas; and an extended “family” consisting of so many friends, co-workers, congregation members, and former students that we sometimes forgot he was an only child. Giffin was preceded in death by his parents.
