Keep a eye out for funny money

The Nevada Police Department is still taking several reports on counterfeit money being passed at local businesses in and around Nevada. 

Several reports have been taken in the last week with subjects passing counterfeit twenty and five dollar bills. These bill all failed a counterfeit pen test.

Please be aware when taking money from individuals. The subjects have been known to tell the individuals taking the money that the money feels different because it has been washed. 

Nevada Police have submitted multiple felony cases to the Prosecutor's Office for the filing of formal charges on subjects who are passing counterfeit bills out.

Milo resident captured after fleeing police on dirt bike

A wanted subject is in custody after a pursuit early Wednesday morning. According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to stop a dirt bike in the area of K Hwy and 2200 Road when the dirt bike failed to yield. 

The suspect fled into a corn field in the area of 2200 Road and Panama Road. The suspect then fled on foot and attempted to hide in the corn field but was found by deputies a short time later. 

Sheriff Jason Mosher said the suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Trey M Stone, of Milo MO. Stone was wanted on a felony warrant for Failure to Obey a Judge’s Order and is being held in the Vernon County Jail with no bond.

Obituary - William J. "Doc" Justus, M.D.

William J. "Doc" Justus, M.D., age 88, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at St. Luke''s South. He was born in Harveyville, Kansas on July 5, 1929, the son of John William and Lucille Rice Justus. 

He was raised most of his life by Grace and Cliff Turner. He graduated from Emporia State University, University of Kansas School of Medicine and Baylor University. He was married to Pam Schumacher. To this union one daughter, Kristen was born. He was a kind, generous and dedicated physician who practiced for over fifty years in Pleasanton. 

He volunteered to practice in the jungles of Nicaragua. He developed Tanglewood Lake, the first man made lake development in Kansas. He was a strong supporter of KU, dedicated Chiefs fan, loved his houseboat at the Lake of the Ozarks, skiing, traveling and corvettes. Doc was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ross, three sisters: Helen Copeland, Carol Wyre, and Vere Austin. He is survived by his daughter Kristen Justus and her mother Pam, and a sister Leta King.

Funeral service will be held 4 pm Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 3 pm to service time at the Chapel. The family suggests contributions to Doctors Without Borders or to Kansas University Medical Research, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 525, Pleasanton, Kansas 66075. Obituary - Donald E. Shipley

Donald E. Shipley, 87, Archie, MO, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at his home in Amarugia, Archie, MO.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00pm Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. 

The family will receive friends Friday June 1, 6:00-7:00pm at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. 

Contributions may be made to the Everett Cemetery Association. A complete obituary will be added when it becomes available.

Missouri Department of Conservation's Free Fishing Days June 9th and 10th

Want some free fun that gets family and friends outside in nature? Get hooked on fishing with the Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Free Fishing Days June 9 and 10. 

During Free Fishing Days, anyone may fish in the Show-Me State without having to buy a fishing permit, trout permit, or trout park daily tag.

Aside from not needing permits, other fishing regulations remain in effect, such as limits on size and number of fish an angler may keep. Special permits may still be required at some county, city, or private fishing areas. Trespass laws remain in effect on private property.

Conservation makes Missouri a great place to fish, and Free Fishing Days encourages people to sample the state's abundant fishing opportunities. Missouri has more than a million acres of surface water, and most of it provides great fishing. More than 200 different fish species are found in Missouri, with more than 20 of them being game fish for the state's more than 1.1 million anglers.
