Safety Village In Butler


SAFETY VILLAGE
Sign ups - Sunday, June 24th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Old High School (north door). Please feel welcome to bring your child to sign ups to view SV and meet the helpers. Safety Village (same location) - Monday, June 25th, through Friday, June 29th. You may choose the AM session from 9-12 or the PM session from 1-4. Participants must be four or five years old during the week of SV. Graduation will be on Friday evening at 6:00 PM



Obituary - William Joseph “Bub” Sutcliffe

William Joseph “Bub” Sutcliffe, 55, passed away peacefully at his residence in Bush, Illinois on Sunday, May 27, 2018 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Bub was born on December 15, 1962 in Kansas City, a son of the late Joseph James and Mary Lou (Cox) Sutcliffe. Bub attended Johnson Elementary in Kansas City. In 1973 his family moved to a farm in Foster, MO and Bub began attending school in Rich Hill. Bub was a very talented athlete and enjoyed playing basketball and football as a Rich Hill Tiger and American League baseball during the summers. 

He graduated from Rich Hill in 1981 and entered the work force. Bub worked a variety of jobs that included working in the oil fields in Oklahoma, mechanic, machinist, drywall, and maintenance. Bub moved to Southern Illinois in the early 90's and settled in Hurst. He loved playing darts, fishing, playing pool, planting a garden and going to family dinners. As a fellow classmate described Bub, “his laugh made others laugh”. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

Bub is survived by his daughter Ashley and husband Ryan Grabill of Nixa, MO; his son Cody Sutcliffe of Hurst, Il; two sisters, Debbie and husband Donald Inchcliff of Bush, Il, Frances “Sis” and husband Kirk Sharp of Fort Scott, KS; one brother Tom and wife Carrie Sutcliffe of Hume, MO; two grandaughters, Alyssa and Joelle Grabill; one grandson, Nic; three nephews, three nieces and one great niece, one step daughter and one step son, Aunt Odie and many wonderful cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Bush Community Building in Bush, Il. Memorial Services will be held 10 am Saturday, June 23 in Foster, MO at the Salem Cemetery.

New Sex Offender Registered in Rich Hill

On June 18, 2018 The Bates County Sheriff's Office registered Arthur E Swarnes (DOB 11/16/1969) as a sex offender.

Mr. Swarnes is residing at 315 S 5th St in Rich Hill, MO.

Swarnes was convicted of a total of 22 counts of Statutory Sodomy in the 1st and 2nd Degree, Enticement of a Child and Child Molestation in the 1st Degree.

Carla May Kagarice Stephens, age 44 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born June 29, 1973 to Lucky Clarence and Brenda Marlene Kagarice Smith in Clinton, Missouri.

Carla is survived by her son Colton Hobbs of Butler, Missouri; two daughters, Brittany Foss and husband Nolan and Amanda Rowland and husband Russell, all of Butler, Missouri; one sister, Cynthia Patrick and husband Mike of Butler, Missouri; her father, Lucky Smith of Urich, Missouri; five grandchildren, Kerstyn, Sophia, Maddox, Joslyn and Remington and one on the way; a nephew, Brendin and two nieces, Brenna and Karli. She was preceded in death by her mother.

Drexel woman seriously injured in Cass County Crash

On 6/17/18 around 8:20pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a one vehicle accident on 307th Street just west of Route DD in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Lexus driven by 58 year old Glenda Latzke of Drexel, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a sign and guardrail before coming to rest.

Glenda Latzke sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Johnson's Tow of Harrisonville.
