Update: From the Belton Police Department

After a long investigation the Belton Police Department is sad to report that Jessica N. Parsons has been found, but deceased. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, and we grieve and mourn their loss with them. 

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and assisted us throughout this process. 

The investigation is still ongoing we are working to determine the cause of death. We will report on that when we have more information.

Obituary - Stephen Ray Johnson

Stephen Ray Johnson, age 61, Pleasanton, Kansas died Tuesday, June 19, 2018. 

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.

Fire at Burger King in Nevada

On Tuesday 6/19/18 around 6:41pm the Nevada Fire Department responded to a fire at Burger King located at 2200 E. Austin Blvd. in Nevada.

When fire crews arrived on scene dark black smoke was coming from the roof of the building. The fire was extinguished in about a hour and no one was reported injuries in this fire.

No significant damage was reportedly caused by this fire.






Police chase in Barton County

On June 20th 2018 the Vernon County Sheriff's Office was involved in a high-speed car chase Southbound on 43 Highway. 

The pursuit entered into Barton County with Barton County deputies and the Liberal Police Chief trying to get into position to help. Sheriff Shaw was able to put down a spike strip on W highway close to the intersection of DD highway. 

The vehicle traveled over the spikes and got three flat tires. The pursuit continued to NW 30th LN where the subject fled on foot from the vehicle. 

Deputies from Vernon County, Barton County, Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers and the Lamar Police Department assisted in searching for the man. At this time he has not been found and is believed to be in a wooded area between V highway and DD hwy. If anybody sees anybody walking in this area your encouraged to call the Sheriffs office.

Obituary -Sindy Lee Carnahan

Sindy Lee Carnahan of Harrisonville, Missouri was born January 20, 1968 in Monett, Missouri the daughter of Bobby Dean and Brenda Joyce (Brown) Smith. She departed this life on Sunday, June 17, 2018 surrounded by love and family at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 50 years, 4 months and 28 days.

On April 8, 2011, Sindy was united in marriage to Michael Donald Carnahan in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sindy loved fashion and shoes and enjoyed working at Dillard's at the Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, Kansas. She loved to exercise, garden, decorate the house for Fall and Christmas and family gatherings. Sindy was a selfless person with the most beautiful smile who loved her family, friends, and her dog, Dakota and was known as "Nini" to her grandchildren. She was a dedicated Child of God and enjoyed going to church. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Dean Smith and her brother, Karl Myers Jr.

Sindy is survived by her husband, Mike Carnahan of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Main and husband Josh, Lee's Summit, Missouri, Christian Oldham and husband Kyle, Kansas City, Missouri; a step-son, Joshua Carnahan, Harve De Grace, Maryland; 3 grandchildren, Kinsley, Karson and Madison; 4 step-grandchildren, Jadyn, Layla, Kade and Ethan; her mother, Joyce Smith, Harrisonville, Missouri; two sisters, Sherri Murphy and husband Steve, St. Mary's, Kansas; Shannon Murphy, Overland Park, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Visitation for Sindy and her brother, Karl Myers Jr. will be 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Graveside service and Inurnment will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.




Structure Fire in Rich Hill

The Butler Fire Department is assisting the Rich Hill Fire Department on a structure fire at address of 221 Howard Street (Corner of Olive and Howard) in Rich Hill at this time.

Please avoid this area as crews battle this fire.

Rich Hill Police Department seeking public assistance

The Police Department is asking for your help. This is the second time in the past month that the planters in the park have been knocked over and the flowers destroyed. 

The Garden Club works very hard to keep the flowers looking good all summer and replacing flowers is expensive. 

If you have seen anything that could be helpful in identifying the individual or individuals responsible, please call the Rich Hill Police at 417-395-2221.
